Hi Guys,
I have a slight issue with regards to my 1995 Pug 306 TD.
Last year I had to repair my engine as the head gasket had failed, so the following was done :
Skimmed Head
New gasket
New Head bolts
New Timing belt
Also stupidly enough I changed the Heater matrix at the same time as it had failed previously.
Recently the engine seems to be using alot of water, I mean in the last 6 weeks I've had to refill the radiator twice with water.
I cant seem to find any leaks anywhere round the engine plus the heater matrix is working fine with no leaks, so I'm abit stumped as to where all this water is going as none of my other cars have ever used this much water in this short time.
Would anyone have an idea as to what could be causing this problem, any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Matthew

Do you notice any white smoke on starting? The TD was rather prone to cracking the head into the exhaust ports.

your water loss may well be from the heater matrix behind dashboard. have you noticed windows steaming up more than usuall when heater is on and directed to screen ,if so matrix is leaking it can be temporararily repaired by joining the hoses at its inlet but ideally should be replaced as there will be no hot air, not the easiest of jobs so be prepaired to pay several hours labour. another fairly common place is from the water pump itself you can usually tell if ther is rusty looking patch behind o/s/f wheel at inner wing . hope this is of some help.

tucked away 3rd drawer down in my cavern i have a water pressure tester, these tools are ideal where you cant get to see a leak and have to nearly boil the car up to try and find it,its so much more fun getting lightly drizzled with cold water and a touch of o cologne antifreeze circa 2003 than it is getting boiled alive with piping hot water
any competant garage should have a tester and im sure for small change would give your water circuit a spin at caveat emptor rates plus a blueee on a saturday morning when the boss plays golaf

Water pump a possibility, often only leaks when stationary. Also main radiator at bottom, as water evaporates. Needs close exam. Alternatively get system full, then pressurised with Sykes Pickavant tool or similar to max pressure of system and see what happens.

Good grief, Bell Boy. Were we separated at birth, or what.

IME its the bottom of the rad - they leak like sieves! However, I did 20K miles with such a leak, topping up the water daily. They seem to live for ever like this.
