My husband has just put 4.5 litres of petrol in my suzuki swift. He topped it up with diesel and drove it home. What should I do?

If this is the diesel, then it must be a late '05/06 one with the Fiat engine?
A Marelli common-rail system would not be my choice to contaminate with petrol.
Get the tank and fuel system drained and refilled [by a local garage - don't tell the dealer] and then sell it immediately.

The AA estimated there are 120,000 instances of misfuelling per year, so probably many thousands. I wonder what %age of the 120k are started and driven; and what %age are common rail?
They tried to launch a campaign about it in 2004.

it's an 07 1300cc {Added to header}. The AA tell me that it should be okay.

did you get this in writing?

No but I have spoken to 2 of their technical advisers on seperate occassions. They said that if it was more than 5 litres to get it drained. Am keeping my fingers crossed! I don't know much about cars but I suppose the fact that it drove home with no problems was an indicator.

I put about 6 ltrs of petrol into my PSA diesel, said bother, topped it off with 40 of diesel and a double dose of millers and OK 30K miles later!
