I have a 1.25 zetec that when warmed up misfires when you initially press the throttle when stood still but then clears. But if you try and drive it misfires under load .Whan I first got it it misfired on tick over so I changed the usual plugs, leads and the coil pack, which cured the misfire on tick over but not on initial throttle openings or under load.
The vehicle has been back to Ford but they cannot find anything wrong on there diagnostic machine.

I don't think whether or not cars have power steering is having a weakening effect on the moral fibre of the nation. If I feel in need of a bit of physical exercise, the last activity I'd think of would be taking a drive, whether the car has PAS or not! PAS is an obvious plus point when selling a car, unless it's a Caterham or something, so I'd probably guess that manufacturers saw it as worthwhile to make it virtually a satandard offerning. It also allows a smaller stweeing wheel and fewer turns lock-to-lock.
hi, i have owned this '03 mk3 mondeo tdci (reluctantly) for 4 weeks, apart from the rust problem i have found, it is also wobbling/juddering when you get up to speed on the motorway, i would say at around 60+mph it starts to get more noticable,
i have had the front wheels balanced and there is no judder coming through the steering wheel or pedals when braking, it seems to come from the rear, the passanger, rear seats and parcel shelf start to wobble, like i say, it feels and sounds like being inside an unsteady washing machine on spin,
has anyone else had this problem or know what it might be.
p.s, it passed its mot 4 weeks ago. Read more
Did I read that Mondeos suffer from rear suspension wear on bushes?, not the estate.
Could it be this problem?
Any tips on how best to tackle this without any workshop facilities ?
Both handles working, door opens at top but appears jammed at bottom furthest away from hinge.
The door is happy staying closed, and the alarm works.
Have to drive home from Germany soon, so am reluctant to risk security.
Just had winter tyres fitted, but I don't think there's any connection ;-)

I'm looking to buy a used Ford Galaxy which I intend to use for long distance driving ( 600+ miles in a day).
Doing a search on Autotrader for upto £8000, diesel and cruise control only gives a handful of results (22). A search without cruise control returns 200+
Does anyone have any experience driving long distances in the Galaxy and if so, would you say that you can do without cruise control?
Is there a better place to look than Autotrader? I need a trader as I want to trade in my old car at the same time.
Where on the net can I find a service schedule?

How is it for long distances. The 406 I currently have is OK but I have an aching right ankle from keeping the pedal pressed all the time when I do my cross Europe drives.
This was the main reason for wanting cruise control but they seem few and far between and scattered all over the country. I'm mainly asking the question to see if I can get away without needing cruise control and therefore open up my oprtions.
Does the upright seating position make it more comfortable for the long distances?
Also how is the wind and road noise at motorway speeds?
There seems to me to be a trend for drivers approaching the "Give Way" lines on a minor road on the left, as I travel along the major road, to be going far too fast and braking at the last moment.
On many occasions recently I have been rather concerned that the car is not going to stop before the junction, and of course I have been prepared to take avoiding action.
I have also noticed that in many cases the driver appears to be either in "tunnel vision" mode concentrating on the "Give Way" lines, or sometimes even looking to their left to see what is happening on the major road. This is not the direction which seems most important to me - it also does not seem logical.
Any thoughts from you knowledgeable BackRoomers?
I just hope I do not get T-boned by one of these morons!

sometimes even looking to their
left to see what is happening on the major road.
It's important to look both ways when turning left onto th major road at a "T" junction. Right to check that your way is clear, and left to check that no-one coming the other way is overtaking....

I've just returned from the Audi dealer as the noise has become more persistant. A technician saw me there and then. I explained I had a noise from the steering he said "don't tell me it's when you are turning left". Needless to say when we first got in the car it was silent, but a few laps of the car park and the noise became evident.
Whilst not a very common fault he has come across it on A3s and A4s - solution is a new steering rack which has supposedly been modified to correct the problem.
I wonder if they'll let me have the R8 as a courtesy car!
1999 ford courier van, 2 problems... 1: battery draining dead overnight. 2: if i disconnect battery, reconnect in the morning its still a pig to start, will crank for 15/20 secs before firing up with a cloud of smoke, .but if i warm the plugs 3 times, (ie wait for light to go out, then turn off/on again) then it seems a hell of a lot better. iv looked on forums and seen a lot of different views on plugs and maybe air. glow plugs are new (but think there cheap) could the plug relay be causing both problems? where is the relay exactly in the fuse box? was told the 1st square at the back..mines empty!!!!!!
thanx in advance

According to Martin Lewis of Moneysavingexpert.com, most people who have been duped into buying this insurance can probably claim their premiums back.
As many here will have taken out finance at some point in their lives to buy a set of wheels I hope that the moderators will see a firm motoring link, however I will not moan too much if this gets slotted into "I have a question".
This guy knows what he's talking about. I would only post this if I thought it could be benefit to someone on here. On his advice I have already successfully claimed back some of the excess charges levied on me in the shape of mortgage exit fees
Please watch his video here. It will take 15 mins of your time but could be worth a lot of money to you or someone you know.

I am sure that at least one person here will save or claim back a sum of money.

I love it when supposedly trained techs say that "there's nothing showing on the machine" as though that proves something!
What it means is that the sitting-down bit is over and it's time to open the bonnet and get your hands dirty!
The first check here, given the history, is to display the primary waveforms to the coilpack on a 'scope. It's not unknown for a failing coilpack to back-spike the coil driver transistors in the ECU.
