A friend of mine have said that the Dealer told them to book-in for Air-Bag replacement, even so there is nothing wrong with their old one, is this right ?
I mean they are going to spend a lot of money for that and I have two Fords which are 13 years old with Air-Bag of each and Ford said they still will work, unlet the Air-Bag light start to flash or lits up.
Please reply.
Thank you! Read more

Strange? Either the ECU was faulty, or the bag itself. Can't see why it needed both; nor how it affected the engine.

Was there more to this than meets the eye? Has it hit something like a speed-hump or a kerb?

My wife was given a Fiesta as a courtesy car while her own car is being repaired. It was supplied by a well known hire car company. I noticed that one of the tyres looked low on pressure. According the manual, when the car is not fully loaded, the tyre pressures should be 26PSI for the rears and 29PSI for the fronts. After checking, both fronts were at 37PSI, one of the rears was at 41PSI and the other rear at 6PSI. That's shocking in my opinion. Read more

I doubt anyone woul 'set' the pressure to 6psi, so somebody let it down ot it has popped.
Unfortunately, you are usually liable for tyres that popped during your hire period, when this happened to me, I just had to keep topping it up and again on the way to drop it off, (which is probably what previous hirers had done.

Question Battery Change
Chris7

Is it possible to change a car battery without the need to re-program radio/alarm etc. If you used say an Airflow Battery Conditioner on the disconnected live and earth cables before disconnection and during, would that be enough to hold the codes for the radio etc, reconnect the leads and then remove the Airflow cables, all codes intact??? I have done it with some nifty work with jump leads, always keeping at least one battery connected at all times during the swap.

Has anyone else recived a serious back injury from being hit from behind at high speed? I had a briefcase behind the drivers seat & when the seat broke/collasped it broke over the brief case shearing the briefcase in two and leaving about 6 inches of the seat upright intact which meant as I submarined out of the seat I got more than I bargined for. I was on the motorway stopped at the end of a traffic que so it hurt!
The biggest lesson for all is don't travel with a brief case behind your seat! Read more

.. I was on the motorway stopped at the end of a traffic que so it hurt! The biggest lesson for all

the lesson i learnt from a similar near-miss shunt was that when in motorway queue, to keep a big gap to the car in front and pay special attention to any potential tailgating idiot behind. particularly when first approaching the queue but to continue to do so even after the traffic is crawling along.

Help please? Just bought a 98 /S Kangoo van with a Blaupunkt radio cassette fitted. Not sure what model it is, but it preset buttons in a block on right and does have the remote paddles on the steering column.
It worked rather well until I inadvertantly disconnected the battery thanks to Renault battery clips, and it now needs the code inserted.
I believe I know the code, and can get the set to prompt ( 0000 ) and worked out which button changes the digit that flashes, but cannot fathom out how to increment & set each number.
Can anyone help me please? Thanks in anticipation.

If you can find the model, then visit the site below and type it in the search box in the top RH corner of the page, and with any luck the one(s) that get listed when you click on it / them will give you the info of how to enter the code.

Hi, I have bought my daughter a cheap and cheerful corsa to learn to drive in.

I drove the car myself and it seems ok , it is a 1998 corsa city with the 3 cylinder engine.

I plan to service it myself and give it a good going over.

Is there anything I should look for in particular?..ie; what are the known problem areas on this model?

All info much appreciated Read more

My nieghbour, who attracts motoring disasters like a candle attracts moths, grounded his sump whilst driving along a farm track, splitting it and so requiring the services of a nice AA man.

The saga of trying to source a replacement, plus the difficulty of removing the old one ( renault megane ), this still being played out, has made me wonder why this was made out of aluminium alloy.

A steel sump would at the best sustained a dent, and at the worst, a easily welded tear, so are alloy sumps a modern phenomenon, and are there any practical reasons for specifying them such as better heat radiation and less weight? Surely they are more expensive to manufacture and therefore a puzzling feature on a volume car.

My 1929 Velocette has got an alloy engine casting that incorporates the crankcase and (2-stroke) oil sump. But now we're just getting a bit silly!

PSA use alloy sumps on XUD and HDi engines with A/C because the lugs for the A/C compressor are cast into the sump.

hi, i have a 53 astra sxi and was wondering if my fuel consumption will go up when i increase the fan speed when the ac is on?
ie; when ac is on will fan speed 1 use more fuel than fan speed 4?
or is it just the same independant of fan speed if the ac is on?
hope you know what i mean!

thanks

"With CC systems, does anyone know if the AC runs continuously or only when the computer decides the incoming air needs cooling? I'm curious because I've noticed no significant difference in fuel consumption between winter, when it sometimes occurs to me to turn the AC off, and summer, when it's on all the time."

On both basic A/C and ECC, the compressor cycles on and off, just as it does in domestic or commercial systems, or a refrigerator.
