I think it's a Fabia, it's a small hatchback and looks like a Golf.
Anyway to reset the service light, e.g with the odometer reset function?

I think this battery back up was also associated with the much more efficient Dynohub system >>
It may well have been, but as there were three different Raleigh bikes in the family at the time it's difficult to remember exactly what the arrangement was in the case of my father's machine - I do recollect though that it used batteries up at a fair rate, probably because they were much less efficient in those days.

My bonnet catch seems to have disconnected or broken at the engine side of the cable!
Any ideas as to how to get into it please!!?? Read more
All done now. The cable had come away at the catch end under the bonnet. After getting underneath I was able to (blindly fumbling!) just reach and luckily pushed the cable back in. Full stretch working from the underneath offside toward the middle of the top of the bonnet.
Thanks for all the advice.
I have just sold the worst diesel car I have owned. The main reasons were the performance and fuel economy. It was a 3 year old Renault Scenic 1.9DCI owned from new and it couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding. It had 105 hp (some of those horses must have been dead) and managed low 40s on a run and about 35-37mpg tootling around. I bought it for my wife when I had a Mk4 Golf GT TDI 110bhp and wrongly assumed that 105hp was close to 110hp.........you get my drift. To be fair it never let me down and I had no problems unlike most Renaults. I suppose you get what you pay for. Incidently I have bought a Touran 2.0 TDI Sport and got 48mpg on a run with it and it feels twice as fast and twice as solid as the Scenic, different money however.
What is your worst diesel car and why? Read more
Wondered how long it would be before the 1.9D Polo was mentioned. I used to have on of these too -spot on description. The first 20 ft if acceleration were OK so it could get away from lights and pull out of side roads OK. After that pretty much nothing apart from an ablsolute load of noise at higher revs.

Recently I built a new PC based on an Intel Core E6400 Duo with an Intel MB. The MB came with RestoreIT on the CD. RestoreIT does an incremental back-up each time you fire the PC up.
After a couple of months of RestoreIt use I am now getting "Error code 0x9006 --- Core error! . . . you may need to re-install RestoreIT" ------- It has happened twice.
This started happening after it had done enough to fill up the available back-up space and had moved on into asking for permission to delete the oldest, to which I clicked OK, for about ten times by now.
What is the view on here?
1) Is this program worth having?
2) Without this program, does XP do a restore point only when you ask it to? (That is probably acceptable to me)
3) What advantage does RestoreIT have over the basic XP back-up? (Not used the XP facility yet)

I missed the important bit: "Thank you! "
After breaking down and being towed by the AA to a garage in Stoke (not my local area - I live in Bury, Lancashire), I was informed that the head gasket on the car had blown and it would cost £500 to fix.
I have since towed the car back home and was wondering if anyone could give me a round about price to have the head gasket replaced. I understand that it is an expensive job especially if it involves skimming the head etc. I just wanted to get an average price before I make any decisions. (Scrapping it is not an option - I have borrowed the car off a friend - it's a P Reg).
I would appreciate any comments / recommendations on what is best to do - and if anyone knows any garages close by who are reasonable.
Thanks in advance!!! Read more
My head gasket started blowing,,, steam from exhaust,,no heater,, over heating and loss of coolant. I tried a bodge before an expensive repair bill and hey presto problem solved for a tenner. Go to your nearest car accessory shop and buy a tub of Kalimex K seal follow instructions pour in rad with bleed valve open..top up coolant, do up bleed valve refit rad cap run up to temperature and then for a further three minutes and problem solved!!!!! No guarantees on how long it will last but it will do a good job in all but the most extreme cases!!! Crazy1!!
Hi everyone,
Lidl have this oil in stock again for £6.95 / 5 litres. I'd like your opinions on using it in a K11 Micra.
Firstly, is it semi-synthetic? It's rated as API SJ so presumably suitable for the engine and the handbook says you can use 15W/40 in ambient temps between -20 and +40 deg. C. My concern is that 15W is a bit viscous so maybe not giving the best cold start protection. Nissan's own oil, which I normally use, is rated 10W/30 and last time it cost me £12 for 5 litres. The car's done 78k if that's relevant.
Thanks in advance,

That's interesting jase1. There seems to be a divergence of opinion even amongst main dealers because two that I've visited have given me 10W/30. I've been using it for the last 30k miles without any apparent problems (changing every 6k), but who knows whether there might be long-term damage?
A colleague suggested today, with a totally straight face, that he may be interested in buying a second-hand Ligier Ambra. The diesel no less! Amazing 85mpg claim is the big selling point. 6.5hp would seem a fairly major demerit to me :)
Needless to say, he does not intend using it on the 'open road', it will just be for a few mile city commute. I've suggested many alternatives from BMW roofed-scooter thingies to Smart cars to Honda lawn mowers, but he still seems keen on the Ligier (F1 heritage no less!)....
After several hours, I have stopped laughing and will try to help him out by tapping into the huge font of motoring knowledge that is the back room....
So, has anyone got any experience of one of these. Is it actually possible to keep up with modern traffic? Will it fall apart and require a complete rebuild after 10k miles? Will the parts be available?

The French really do not expect to do do more than
3-4k km/year in one - my wife's parents in law tried
it, (they are French) and it simply did not work. <<
Wifes parents in law - wouldnt that make them your parents? :-)
Thank you for that, I'll update this thread when I've tried it, it will be a few days yet.
