Peugeot 206cc
Purchased: 2nd April 2005
Registration: 05

After purchasing my Black 206cc Allure back in April, I have had nothing but problems. Immediately after picking it up I noticed some faults. And I was not happy about the way the dealer tricked me into the remaining finance.

Firstly, he told me the interest rate as 4.5%. It was only when I went to pick the car up this was 9%. After putting down a deposit and then the final balance I felt like I had no choice but to sign the finance agreement. He gave the impression that I would loose all the deposit I had put down on the vehicle if I decided I didn?t want the car anymore. And that I had no choice as the car had already been registered in my name etc.

Would he change the rate?! No way! He told me I should have known to double this to get the correct rate? I have since learnt that in their training they are taught to refrain from giving away the full APR. Not a good start.

Fault after fault became apparent on the car and even a letter to the MD of Peugeot didn?t help. I received a reply from him only 12 days after picking the car up saying he was ?sorry? about the way treated and he would ?look into it?. Still heard nothing and its now November!

Due to the distance between myself and the Peugeot garage they said to hold on with the faults and to have them all fixed under warranty repair when the car went it for its free 6 month check up. Now, obviously for any make of car you can take it to that particular make of car?s garage. I opted for my local 10 minute away dealer ? deleted. After accepting that I could do nothing about the extortionate finance rate I put my faith in Peugeot that my car would be returned fault free. Little did I know.

By this stage the following faults were present:
- Roof leaking in 3 places. (From both clips and the rear driver window).
- Doors not closing properly ? having to slam them to get them to shut.
- Headlights were mis-aligned which made driving at night difficult.
- Brakes squeaking
- Wind noise from the drivers window
- Unexplainable noise from the rear when driving.
- Passenger seat loss of memory
- Problem with radio memory seems to always divert to radio 1.

Went to collect the car on the arranged collection date, only to be phoned when I was nearly there to say it was not ready. Bearing in mind this was as they were closing!. 3 days later and finally the car back. Again just as they were closing as I had to go after work. The guy informed me all the faults had been fixed and the roof was leak free.

Less than ¼ mile down the road and I could see water dripping form the passenger side clip. Immediately called the garage and they said that they had tested it. Absolutely disgusted. On my return home I inspected the entire vehicle. This is when I found the damage the garage had caused whilst my vehicle was in their possession.
- Passenger door was pushed in to the vehicle and so did not align with the other panels on the car.
- From above the passenger door on the roof continuing all the way down the body work across the boot and down the rear of the car over the lexus lights until the bottom of the bumper were various deep scratches in the paint work. Also found on passenger door.
- Right headlight was failing to work causing an awful sound when driving.
- Chunk out of my alloy wheel
- Scratches on the front bumper where they had the headlights out to realign.

Immediately called the Peugeot garage. The most senior person there was a supervisor. I described the damage and I have to admit I was very angry. I don?t know what happened next. The next thing I remember was waking up with a nice view of the concrete road. Luckily my mum was nearby and apparently I collapsed on the floor. My mobile still being connected to Peugeot they were quickly told I needed medical attention. Not that they cared.

Saturday morning. The next day. Car was taken over to the garage. They would not admit anything wrong and that the service manager was not there to look at the car and so he would come and visit me on Tuesday. They informed me that they door had to be realigned to try and stop the leaks! ? Have you ever seen a 206cc with the door pushed in???? Apparently this is ?normal? to stop leaks. They also advised of the new style sills being fitted to stop leaks ? well proof they don?t work!!!

After this went all the way to the garage. They looked over the car and agreed the faults and the damage. The sales manager informed us that to reject the vehicle we had to write direct to Peugeot themselves. This is in fact wrong as per the law it?s the dealer who sold the car who you have to reject the car too.

Several strongly worded letters later, diary of all the telephone conversations and still waiting for an answer.

Had a call today for the director of the Peugeot garage. He informed me that Peugeot would not accept the car back. He said that he didn?t want a second hand car back as he would lose too much money on it. He also said that he didn?t want a car that was damaged and leaking. He didn?t seem to care that what he didn?t want, I have. All he seemed to care about is whether he would make a loss. He said that Peugeot themselves may offer me a new car as a replacement ? But he would not as it would cost him too much money. He then informed me that the Peugeot garage had informed him that they had been trying to contact me to get a date for the car to go in for repair. The Peugeot garage have my home, mobile, email and home address. No contact made. No messages left on the answer machine. Conveniently a letter arrived a couple of days after speaking to deleted of deleted. Offering to repair the damage and apologising for not contacting me sooner. Ummm?..

Finance company have now got back to me to say that the garage are only offering a repair. Considering the legally own the car due to outstanding finance, they don?t seem to care that I have been sold a faulty vehicle. I suppose all they car about is getting their money and the extortionate interest back.

Peugeot have now said that they will repair the vehicle and nothing more. They are even saying they have never seen the vehicle even though I drove all the way there the minute it started leaking. The finance company will not fight this anymore and their answer now is that if I disagree with Peugeots reply then I need to sue them and they will counter sue the Peugeot garage?..

WHAT SHOULD I DO?

Has anyone had any experiences like this before?

How did you go about rejecting your vehicle?

Any advice / information appreciated??

The car has had none stop faults form the start?. From everything I have read ? once they start leaking they never stop????

The more I read and the more I hear ~ The only option I seem to have is to somehow get them to agree and sign something to back up what they say. They are assuring me that once fixed the faults will be gone and that the car wont leak. I don?t think they will agree to this somehow as I?m still waiting for paperwork from over a month back I requested. I don?t see that if they have sooooooo much faith that once repaired it wont leak, why they cant promise me a full refund or a brand new car if it leaks after they have had the chance to repair it.

Please someone help me?..

Lesson learned ? NEVER BUY A PEUGEOT!

Well done

When they say they cannot guarantee the new car won't leek, I suspect they mean that if it does they'll fix it.

when you manufacture a product you can't be sure that it will conform, as experience tells you you'll get non conformancies. It's a fact of life, despite your wanting to get these down to 1 in a 1000 or so. However, that is when you put actions in place to rectify the situation.

Try to develop a good relationship with the sales and after sales guys. When you pick the car up it may be worth your while taking in a case of beer or a few bottles of wine to oil the relationship a bit, even if you (hopefully) never need to call on the warranty again.

A wreck of a car is sold for £100. The car is sold without licence disc (on which there is £85 of tax remaining), as agreed by both parties.

The vendor forgets to remove the tax disc from the windscreen. He jump starts the sold car, and the buyers drive off. On reaching the end of the road, the buyers stall the car and telephone the seller to ask for another jump start.

By this point the seller has realised that he has forgotten to remove the disc from the car, so asks the purchasers whether they have it, and please could he have it back.

Lo and behold, the tax disc is not in the car, and the purchasers deny ever having seen it.

So... the logical conclusion is that the disc *must* have been stolen from the car earlier in the day when the vendor was removing his own property from the car. The vendor imagines that the current possessor of the disc must be the purchasers, but they deny it.

What approach do you recommend?

£85 is a lot of money. If you've got a spare key retrieve the disc now!

If you're feeling particularly cruel, then report the car as abandoned and without tax to the DVLA :-)

I replaced the headlight bulb on a Vectra yesterday. Do I need to have the aiming checked by a garage? Thanks. Read more

>Park up a few feet away from a wall or fence and compare headlight beam height (on dipped beam) with the other one that you didn't change

I did that at the time and thought it was about OK. What a badly engineered headlight holder - thought I'd have to get the engine out to change the bulb! Thanks.

I now have a really strong pungent smell in my Saxo as my bottle of Millers Diesel Extra stuff has been leaking in my boot.
It has soaked through the boot lining into the insulation type layer underneath.
Is there any point in me trying to clean this out / dry this off or should I just bin it and put an old carpet in? Is the smell ever going to go away?

Anyone else been so stupid? I don't want to fill the car with air freshners all the time to cancel the smell, although maybe neutradol would do it? Read more

Contact Millers for their advice they're a small company that I suspect wouold do what they could to advise and if you mentioned that you sought advice here they'd be interested, I happen to know they rate this site very highly

I reversed out of a car park space in a supermarket car park....into a woman who was reversing out the space opposite.

An older gent who witnessed it said it was my fault as she had reversed out further first and I then went into her, rather than us both going into each other, if you know what I mean. She said she was out and had stopped and was just about to pull forward again.

My boot was full and the parcel shelf had been taken out to allow for more shopping and it was sitting angled over the shopping and the back seat, so it's entirely probable that she was out and I just didn't see her. I certainly didn't see her in my side mirror otherwise I wouldn't have started to reverse obviously but maybe she was past the area that my mirror would show.

I didn't think there was any damage to my car and I made that comment at the time. The bumper of her car had a jagged crack about 5 or 6 inches long on the horizontal flat bit (running the same way as the bumper) and obviously the paintwork was damaged around the crack, although only a little. Because of the way the car is made though, the bumper panel is a whole big thing not just a little section that could be replaced.

It was only after she drove off I realised the paintwork on my car had been damaged too around the rear corner of my bumper and just above.

Anyway, we swapped details and she said her husband would phone me tonight and I could deal with him. I asked why her husband and not her and she said it was because it was her husband's car.

It was mentioned that we could avoid going through our insurance companies and she would find out how much it would cost to repair.

I don't know what to do now. Should I wait and see how much the bill is? Should I phone the insurance anyway? How do I know if it is a reasonable quote? How much is reasonable to replace a Laguna bumper (54)? What if they get a quote from the most expensive garage around as they know they wont be paying it? Do I just need to put up with it? If I ask them to get more than 1 quote, they might get fed up and decide just to involve the insurance company without telling me anyway?

Our last insurance claim was only a year and a half ago but having reasd the bumph I see that we're covered as you're allowed 2 claims within a 3 year period, so the NCB should be ok. I expect our insurance renewal quote will jump a fair bit though, if we go through the insurance company.

What's the least out of the evils? Coughing up for a repair bill or coughing up more for insurance.

I've been trying to get through to the local Renault garage to get a ball park figure of how much it would cost to replace a Laguna bumper panel but the desk was constantly busy and I can't get a hold of anyone.

Help? Anyone got any advice please? I have no idea what to say to her husband when he phones. I'm panicking now.

Thanks in advance if anyone can advise me.

Wasn't sure whether to bump this up again but decided to just in case anyone else was in a similar position and was interested in costs involved.

Husband eventually phoned 2 days later telling me he'd been quoted £220 (inc VAT) for the cost of the bumper itself. Obviously paint costs and labour for fitting and painting would have to be added on top of this.

I told him I was going to go through the insurance and he sounded almost disappointed. Turns out his insurance company is the same as mine, but a week later and he still hasn't contacted them regards any claim.

The insurance company tell me the woman I was involved with has her own policy so they need to make sure they are dealing with the right one and have clarified what car she was driving. They wont tell me anything else though. It still all seems very strange to me.

Insurance have asked me whether I want to pay for repairs to my own car or go ahead with the claim. Damage to mine is small, I would probably pay for it myself but I only claimed as I thought it would be as well getting done since the other car was going to be costly. I still don't know what's happening about the other driver/car though so I'm no further forward.

I might end up paying for my own repair then the other driver puts in a claim 2 months later and the insurance ends up paying out anyway. Nothing's ever straightforward is it?

Grateful for any help,
Our is a Volkswagen Golf 1988 4=E 1.8 .
On a run back from Brighton to Bordon the autochoke stuck on and it used so much fuel that my Range Rover would have been proud.
With an Escort mk3 we had a while back i just took it apart and cleaned it up an it worked fine.
This time the choke looks the same (bi metal coil) except there is a wire running into the housing and was a fine spring running around inside to an end.
In the workshop manual it says to test the circuit with a wire and bulb and if it does not light up discard.
What does this wire do ?.
I have bypassed the water pipe for the choke and rigged up a crude mechanism for opening and closing the choke but it still runs like it is over choked when warm.
thanks Read more

Has anyone every had this issue? It is the 1st time it has every happen to me since I've owned the car.

The clutch is not slipping when driving and she still pulls away fine, just a slight judder.

Damp Clutch?

Cheers

My 2003 Berlingo Multispace 2.0HDi has developed an annoying vibration coming from the air filter system, it resonates right through the vehicle. I've been told Citroen did advise their dealers on this and they were told to replace the system whenever there was a complaint, but the local people don't seem to have heard about it. Anyone had this problem? Any comeback on Citroen, even though my vehicle is out of warranty now as far as the UK is concerned since I bought it when living in Ireland? Read more

Anyone heard of this fuel discount scheme??

Sounds interesting, and if I hadn't heard it from Martin Lewis I would be a lot more sceptical.

martin...
your saying that if ,,for example....100000000 people are all going to
buy petrol from ONE petrol company...that they would STOP the promotion????

There is not a petrol company large enough to supply this much fuel. They would simply sell the same amount of fuel quicker (until it ran out).

in my opinion this would force other companies to lower there
prices.
eg.if everyone suddenly stopped buying from shell today...
no-one whatsoever to buy from shell
dont you think that they would lower their prices????

No, the supply of petrol is not flexible enough to cope with everyone going to one supplier. Similarly the demand for petrol is not flexible enough for people to ignore a garage that has fuel when no others have any fuel to sell.

If everyone stopped buying from Shell today then all the other garages would not be able to cope with the extra custom and would run out in a matter of days. Shell would then be able to increase their prices as people would have no choice but to buy petrol from them.
