It is no more than zero out there, but there is no frost - great. So why did the idiot in a Clio try to wash his windscreen with his washers and wipers?
He could not see as his car was not warm enought to thaw the slushy icy goo on his screen as he drove along, so he drove down the A56 looking out of a one inch patch of clear screen, weaving all over the road and generally being a danger to other traffic. I pulled off and went an alternative route after he slammed his brakes on for a shadow.

Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive? Read more
Off to look at a very tidy 2000 (w) Alfa 166 up for grabs at £2150. It looks good but I've yet to drive it. Anything I should watch out for? Thanks Read more
That is the kind of mpg that we used to manage out of the 164, although my wife did a lot of short journeys in it.
Help!!!!!
This is a very big cry for help to all those Dubbers who know!
I have recently acquired a 87mk2 gti that has had a corrado VR6 transplant. thats the easy bit!
The project i feel is far from complete but the majority of the work is complete.the engine/gearbox has been fitted and i must say looks awesome BUT the inlet manifold is in dire need of replacement because it has a crack in it and the manifold flange has been broken.. can replace ? how much .. will find out .. no worrys there.£60 got one i think!
NOW the wiring loom is well at the moment none existant, i have to try and find out who has this and obviously get it back but if i cant what would the best route be to get this vw back on the road and can the loom be moded to from gti 8v to the likes of a VR6?are there people out there that can make a new one ?or what would the obvious answer be ? I would really like to get this beast moving
Please help ! it should be worth it in the end ??????

Hi,
May i suggest you post this on a specialist forum - like www.vr6oc.com . Lots of members with an active fourum.
Also, remenber that there are 2 types of manifold fitted to the VR6 engine, depending on the engines age - so make sure the one you have seen for £60 is the correct one.
1999 T - which series is this Alfa 156 please? anything to check to identify the series. Guessing probably S1 but maybe S2?
TIA Fraz Read more
There were in fact two face lifts to the 156,quick way to check is the colour of the central control panel if its black its a s1 if its silver its a s2,s3 has a different front and dashboard.s1 upto 2000,s2,2000-2003 s3,2003>.S2 is a much better car than a s1 with many small improvements.
With the recent weather and the salting of the motorways I am aware that my previously gleaming, blemish free discs are looking quite pitted with rust. The car like others is absolutely covered in salt and the like, and despite washing it all, and trying to keep the car clean the discs seem to be suffering - I notice when reversing that they now feel gritty when brakes are gently applied.
Is there anything I can do? Would pressure washing get rid of minute elements of salt that would otherwise not shift and continue to corrode, or does adding water to the equation make the rusting proces speed-up?
The car is garaged overnight, but is in the open for the whole of the day and exposed to all the elements.
Thanks in anticipation.

Discs are still made from cast iron. If you have ever have a disc that is rusted onto the hub, and you cant get it off, this can be proved. The best way is with liberal use of a hammer, which results in the disc coming off in about 5 pieces. Mild, or even high carbon, steels are too malleable and would just bend. As for rusty discs, agree with the above comments. A few sharp stops, or even drving with your left foot on the brake for a short period wil soon clear them up.
Had one as a hire car today. Shattered a few illusions, Strong 1.9 diesel, smooth and quiet thing linked to a very nice 6 speed box, nice electronic hand-brake. Seemingly as well made, good radio but a blinking fustrating heated rear window - the timer interval is unreal. Yes, I could buy one if I was in the market. Read more
Yes - very linear. Almost as smooth as BMW 6 ( ;-) ). It was still in the car park at work today, ready to go back, still......
I have the Golf MKV, 2.0TDI and I went to a VW garage to reset the interval alarm, as it has popped in the trip computer to early (15000Km).
Coincidently or not and after visiting the VW garage my temperature gauge does not work any longer, is dead! No reading at all. Additionally, I noticed that the engine when starts is rotating at higher RPMs that it used (+- 1100RPM, previously 900 RPM). Can this be any how related?
How can I realise what is faulty, the coolant temperature sensor? The gauge?
I heard that the sensor on MK IV has some faulty connection and gets easily loose. I would like to check this on my car as well. Anyone knows where is this sensor placed, colour, size, etc?
At the VW garage they said (after looking to the car for 2 minutues, without pluging the service tool in) that they need to take the dashboard out and place in a new panel (that they think is faulty?)?

Hello,
Please can someone give me some advice on an electrical fault with have with my Renault Megane Coupe T reg (1999) 16v 2 litre. The lever for the windscreen wiper has stopped working, and instead the switch that is for the air conditioning now turns the wipers on and off. The wipers go very slow when turned on by the air conditioning switch, and hardly any air is blown out from the air conditioning unit making it very hard to demist the windscreen and also potentially dangerous to drive when the window is fogged up and it is raining.
Someone has suggested it could be a relay switch problem. Someone else said it could be an expensive £300 repair job.
Thanks,

Now what makes me think this is a common problem.....
Good old Renault!
I've recently taken on a 20+ year old Honda Prelude 1.8 EX as my project car. The first thing to go was the water pump which took the head gasket out with it. Having now replaced both plus the timing belt, I find the ignition timing is very erratic. The rev counter has a phantom reading about 4 times higher than it is and is erratic. My friendly local garage, who seem to suffer me gladly, put their digital timing light on it which also showed a high, erratic rev count. It seems the ignition coil is on rapid fire!
I seem to remember that the rev counter was erratic, but not noticeably high, before the rebuild. I think that I may have exacerbated an existing problem.
Does anyone have an idea where the fault may be? My current thinking is that it's something inside the distributor.

Cool car though :-)
was wondering if any one can help my pug 306 deisel seems to be having trouble starting when cold i think it is the glow plugs but was wondering if any one out there knows how easy they are to change Read more
hi, remove the plugs from the head and test them by putting a live feed from the battery to the top of the plug and earth to the body and watch to see if it "glows" it should go red at the end of the plug, ONLY FOR A FEW SECONDS WHEN RED OR THEY CAN BURN OUT, you may only have to change 1 or 2 if you can't afford to change the set.
