Rather than using this new-fangled method of taxing my car online I will do it at my local Post Office next time I draw my pension. Use it or lose it.

I intend to sell my car privately in the next few weeks. I have a personal reg. I intend to buy a new car after selling the old one and transfer the personal reg to it. Can anyone advice what the procedure is for dealing with the reg ?
Thanks

Its quite straight forward, take a look at:-
www.dvla.gov.uk/faq/faq_transfering.htm
which should answer most of your questions.
I have had a very bad experience with a Citroen C5 I bought from new:
* Rear Brakes squeal admitted by Citroen but refuse to deal with it, as ?it does not affect braking performance?. Ask my neighbours, check my eardrums!
* Incompatible roof rack equipment supplied.
* Poor recording of service details that potentially affect guarantee.
I would like to know how many other Citroen users have been treated in an arrogant, high handed, and potentially negligent way.
I have constructed a Website to co-ordinate responses in order to bring public awareness to this situation of poor service.
Citron senior management need to know how their customers feel ? not just the stymied view filtered to them by their ?Customer Service? Department.

Thanks for the feedback so far.
Please keep it coming.

I have recently noticed a trend that quite recent cars are being driven with black and white plates. (I have seen several X5s and a few MINIs)
You would have thought that the suppliers of such plates would have warned the purchaser that they were illegal.
And what about MOT time? Do they swop them for the test?

I'd love to be a plod for a few days and put the fear of god into people like that. I'd stand by the bus lane at the end of my road and book 'em all. Frankly, the bus lane shouldn't be there for the 10 buses an hour that use it. However it is there, and those oiks who use it slow law-abiding folk down, so they deserve to be nicked.
Hello,

Yea I thought it could be the syncro....It is not my car so getting the wife to double the clutch could be fun....I'ii stick her on an old Fordson Major for the day, that should get her in the habit.
I'II do the oil change thing and check all the adjustmentsa and teach her how to blip and double up.
Many thanks..
H ;-)
Another thread in discussion got me thinking about this. When did the car buying public start getting hung up about service histories? Throughout the 60s, 70s and early 80s my dad bought nearly new Fords from main dealers. However they never went back to the dealership for servicing and the service books remained unstamped.
He did his own servicing - oil changes, brake pads, contact breakers, plugs etc etc. Parts all bought from the local motor factors (no Halfords in those days). Only jobs like decokes and new clutches were farmed out. Even when I got my first car in the late 80s (a 7 year old Capri) it had no paperwork other than the current MOT and reg document. My dad bought it on instinct rather than paper evidence of servicing.
So when did all this change - was it started by the car manufacturers themselves? Read more
I won't risk those kind of repair costs if something has
not been serviced...
I take your point! Engines were mostly pushrod OHV's I recall and as such a snapped cambelt was unheard of. I certainly think that far to much emphasis is placed on a 'dealer' SH particularly for the 'average family car' I do concede some do need specialist servicing though. With very few adjustments now needed do you really need the dealer to do this work. I have used an independent for many years now and I am guaranteed total honesty and excellent workmanship. However the service book doesn't have that dealer stamp in it. I lay odds though that it's been better serviced!
Blew a rear tyre today. Where it blew I could not stop and definitely could not change the wheel without certain death so had to drive about 1 mile on the flat tyre and shredded it.
Now the tyre was nearly new, say 500 miles. The other tyre looks pristine but I was always taught you have to replace both tyres on an axle no matter what.
Should I do the one or is it too damn dangerous and should I just suck it up.
In that case recommendations for cheap quality tyre places in around Guildford... Read more
Assuming that the other (pristine) tyre had also only done 500 miles it will hardly have had the little bobbles (excess bits of rubber) worn off and should be "as-new". Just replace the damaged tyre. I personally wouldn't replace any serviceable tyre until the tread depth indicated the need for change.

Does anyone know how to remove the front bumper on a 2004 Kangoo ? I can see two obvious fixings at the sides but where are the others ?

I've had my Clio from new and have never had any problem with the immobiliser...until now that is!
It has been sitting on the drive for 2 or 3 weeks. I just went out to tidy it up ( I WAS going to try and sell it!). I managed to get into it using the remote but when I tried the ignitition the immobiliser light was flashing and the engine wouldn't turn over....it was just completely dead...total silence. The radio wouldn't come on and the lights on the dashboard kept fading. The central locking wouldn't work with either of my 2 remotes so I had to lock the doors manually.
Any ideas??? Could it be the battery? Read more
Good to hear. Thanks for coming back and letting everyone know.
I've held off posting this because it's a little embarrassing but I don't care anymore.
Last week, I noticed a tiny midge type fly hovering around - thought nothing of it and opened a window. The following days it was still there even though I could swear that each time I saw it, I witnessed it fly out of the window.
Then, one day last week I was getting in the car and put the demister on and noticed about 20 of the little blighters crawl out of the vent. I looked around and saw about 5 or six on the back window too thinking "what the hell".
Since last week, I've drove everwhere with all the windows open to get rid and whilst when you leave the car, there are none to be seen, the next day I'll always see a couple hanging around.
What are they, where have they come from and more to the point, how the hell do I get rid of them?
A couple of thoughts;
*I rarely have a window open - I always have the air con on recirculated because I like the car cold
*My mate's house is in the middle of a field and next to a forest where my car's always parked. Any connection?
* The car doesn't smell great - kinda like there's been someone sleeping rough in it (they haven't!!) but there's a week's worth of fast food wrappers in there and I don't have fresh air getting into the car to which I have attributed the smell.
* I'm not itchy so they musn't be biting me.
Please help.

Check the fan belt, air intake filters, etc.

My renewal reminder said that my nearest issuing office was 50 miles away. I didn't believe it so I checked the Post Office website ~ also as suggested on the renewal reminder! On hand obviously doesn't know what the other is doing at DVLA.
