audi a4 1995 tdi 3rd gear issue - hm
Hello,

My wifes a4 has started to play up when going into 3rd gear, sometimes it is almost like you have used the clutch....the car is on 190ish K.......all other gears seem to be okay.....any ideas,

If by play up you mean makes a graunching noise when going into 3rd, it is likely to mean failed synchromesh on that gear. Car could run for years like this, though wife may like to learn double declutching for a quieter life :)

My Fiesta used to do that sometimes in fourth when I'd miss third out.

I just got into the habit of double declutching on fast changes and it never bothered me again.

Yea I thought it could be the syncro....It is not my car so getting the wife to double the clutch could be fun....I'ii stick her on an old Fordson Major for the day, that should get her in the habit.

I'II do the oil change thing and check all the adjustmentsa and teach her how to blip and double up.
