A litre and a half of red wine, all over the carpet underneath the front seats of my Passat. Someone coming the other way too fast on a country lane forced me to brake really hard and two bottles came off the back seat before smashing on the metal of the seat runners.
Any suggestions for a thorough clean-up job and removing the smell? The carpet certainly doesn't look like it's ever designed to be removed, but I'll check Haynes all the same. Read more
ok so i have bought a car, i paid 2k towards it ,
the other 8 was from a loan from a bank
if it goes faulty, the garrage owner is respoinsible, he gave me 3mo warranty, if he starts complaing that the fault isnt his problem, is the bank also responsible Read more
If you paid the deposit on credit card, the card company would have joint liability.
& for £$£$£ Q's the VERY best place to go, is www.moneysavingexpert.com - they're a friendly bunch on there - just like us, except always going on about money & we always keep on about motors!!

Just seen some pictures of what might become the new Espada, with 6.2l V12 to take on the Ferrari 612. Nice looking IMHO, although only a view from the rear in Autocar.
...So Espada, if they do sign such a car off you've got until 2009 to save up for it. Read more
There's nothing more wonderful than a great 70s Italian supercar, but unfortunately Lamborghini decided to make great-looking Italian supercars instead during this period.
My father used to know a guy who road tested for one of the magazines in the 70s and the stories he told of the problems they had shattered my illusions, I think the only one he didn't test was the Miura.
Having said that I would buy a Uracco P300 tommorrow if I had the money.

Actually the area identifier is the last two letters so (as
you're Somerset / Bristol based) local examples would be AYA, YA
representing Taunton and AAE, AE representing Bristol.
BJ is an identifier for Ipswich, whereas BC is an identifier
for Leicester.
You are right of course, it it is the new, 2001 on, system that uses the first to letters as the area identifier.

Ok so everybody on here seems to be talking about getting at least 50% off of list price for a new Rover 75. If I can get a fully loaded diesel automatic connoisseur for £12k then I'd be happy.
Can anyone come up with a link selling Rovers for somewhere near half price? Clearly there's a need to then negotiate a bit more in person to get things as low as possible but I haven't really found anything remotely close to 50% of list.

Try the Inchcape group. I am told they have at least
a hundred 75s to shift.
The Rover (Inchcape) dealership next to us has bought lots of the stock and are selling them cheap although i have no idea of what stock they have got and how cheap they are though. Their number is 01283 545353
You could approach them directly - just seen this on the website

I have found a nice clean ZX estate for £995. It's the standard 1.9D, not turbo, 'N' reg.
I would be interested to hear what any views on these cars are before I go and buy it. Any known faults?
Thanks

Boot definitely is. They don't dent, they break!
there seems to be alot of ford focus alloy wheels being stolen at the moment.
we have had 3 done on our estate and one done round the corner
i suppose they are getting in "chav" price range now arent they, and its easier to buy a 1.4 model and get the radio out of a zetec and get the wheels as well
does anyone have any similar experiences

I know we were replacing huge amounts of Focus door glasses in the Manchester area a few months ago, and funily enough lots of Ford stereo's were turning up on Ebay.
A very quick Ebay search of Ford Focus wheels showed about a hundred items.

My Golf GT Tdi 110bhp (T reg) starts perfectly from cold, but hot starts often require lots of churning or more usually its better to turn the ignition off, wait 30 secs and try again which is usually immediately successful. I've tried both waiting, and not waiting for the glow plug light to extinguish but that seems to make no difference. All I can think of is perhaps air in the fuel line, but wonder why cold starting is ok because the engine was obviously hot when it was shut down the previous evening, and I don't see that waiting for it to cool would miraculously get rid of any air bubbles that might have formed. The only other slight problem is a small dieing of power passing through about 2800 rpm on moderate to swift acceleration but it may not be connected. Any ideas guys?

Definately worth replacing the small O ring seals on the fuel filter connection - easily damaged - could open under when things get hot, perhaps?

Morning,
Is there anywhere a site that allows you to compare insurance quotes for various cars without having to type in your personal details and driving history for each car that you want to check against?
Thanks,

"Quick and easy" and "insurance" tend to be mutually exclusive.
There have been a few comments recently (in particular, regarding Seats and the Honda Accord estate) about the decreasing amount of glass in cars or the reducing size of windows - and the consequent increasing difficulty in seeing out.
I have been led to understand that this is largely about improving the NCAP ratings of cars, though it may also help to keep the weight of cars down. And for all I know, it might also be a style / fashion thing. Perhaps someone can throw further light on this?
I can't say I'm enthusiastic about this. I like big windows and good all round visibility - as much as possible. What do other backroomers think?
And does anyone know of any modern cars that buck the trend? Read more
Perspex and the like would be scratched to hell within days. These materials may be hard to break but they're easy to damage.

If you can get hold of a "wet" vacuum cleaner, they pick up moisture very well.
We flooded the basement at work a couple of weeks ago and after using one of those the carpets were only damp and had completely dried out over the weekend.
I thought it would be an insurance claim job but an assessor wouldn't have found anything to claim for!
