I'm thinking about subs to AuctionView but I have a couple of ques. would appreciate your input:

Can you search for all cars avail. at a specific Auction site? for a specific sale day? Or can you only search by make/model?How much time in advance is the info avail.?

It works on a no. of searches basis so once I get the results for a search can I view all the cars in the search results without the search no. going down?

Does the info provide Pics? Info on Service history? V5? No. of owners? MOT expiration? Reg Date? Mileage Warranted info?...anything else

Cheers

These were all three years old (or thereabouts)

Focus 1.8 Ghia was about 25k miles (SWMBOs current car)
Omega MV6 3.0 (my current car) was about 22k miles
Rover Sterling (827) (ahem) was around 35 - 40k IIRC
Can't remember the other one...

Omega is now on 107k, all the faults it had have been "known" weak spots. Focus is now on c 48k, only major issue was recent cambelt failure, due to my mech changing belt but not tensioner (which broke up). Rover, surprisingly, never had any faults, btu I hated it and didn't keep it that long... None of my cars are main-dealer serviced and none of them are regularly service either. They occasionally get some new oil, or a filter, or some plugs.

I reckon I saved at least £2.5k on the Omega at the time (you don't usually see these cars for sale privately at that age). Savings of nearly £2k on the Focus when I bought it. The Rover, I paid through the nose for - it just caught my eye on the day and I regretted it ever since.

I've usually targetted only lower mileage cars, although I wouldn't be averse to a decent high miler at the right price, especially one which was a "motorway" type car. Need to listen closely to the auctioneer's description as he will state how many services etc.

My passenger side rear tyre has around 3mm of tread left. The driver side rear has around 4.5mm left. It's a very noticable difference to the naked eye. Both are Dunlop SP9000s that came new with the car (Yaris). The car's done 48k miles, and is approaching 4 years old.

On both tyres, the wear is pretty even across the width, and around the circumference.

What could cause this uneven wear? I assume it can't be pressures or tracking, as those would result in uneven wear within the tyre, not between the two tyres, right? Read more

Thinking about going to Amsterdam, then driving to Germany and back to France in 8 days-quick stop tour.
Looking on the usual websites to rent a car, does anyone have any experience of any less costly companies to rent from.
All of them seem to have a massive one way rental charge of atleast Euro 250.
Any advise anyone,on this.
Thanks

Not sure about one way but the best rental prices I've found so far are by booking through www.ebookers.com

The only normal operation is high speed; normal speed doesn't work, wipers won't park, auto doesn't work, nor flick wipe.

Local indie repair man reckons it could be the motor itself.

Any thoughts out there? Thanks in advance. Read more

An update, to round off this thread and provide info for anyone interested. Local indie man was right - he managed to borrow a new motor from a main dealer to test his theory and it solved the problem. Expensive, though - £140 plus labour.

Newbie here and very new in claiming off insurance! I drive a company insured vehicle and in short my g/f was involved in a small prang.

In short she pulled out of a junction as the traffic was stopped waiting for the lights to change she crept forward onto a keep clear patch (to allow space for people to emerge from that junction!) someone came charging down the outside lane (a right hand filter lane) and clipped her(my) car o/s bumper. This span her car onto another car waiting patiently in the traffic queue at the lights (waiting to go straight on).

Anyways its pretty clear (to me) that it was not her fault as she was slowly moving into a keep clear space to turn left to join the right hand filter traffic lane and that the other guy was racing to 'beat the lights' and did not see her emerging to that lane (the lights were changing to amber).

The fact that the chap leapt out of the car and said the following ' Sorry my fault, I was going too fast to catch the lights and I admit liability'. Seems to back the above up.

I was mentioning this to some of my work colleagues and they seem to think that this would invalidate his insurance as all the information we have on our accident cards always state - DO NOT ADMIT LIABILITY. Is this just an urban myth?

If not I am assuming (and this is where I bow to your superiour knowledge) that even if he has invalidated his insurance, my company will still get paid and he will have to repay his insurance etc.

I am also thinking that as he admitted liability that I she can pursue this as a no fault accident and we can get our excess back?

Obviously I'm not too bothered about the money as no one was injured (apart from whiplash for the g/f) and all was dented was metal (and the poor fella's pride as his swimbo was not amused!)

Any thoughts?

Cheers

It is always possible that blame will be apportioned, and that both parties will be found to be partially to blame. It is called contributory negligence.

Hi

We are having problems accessing the boot and engine bay of our MGF.
The car is with a mechanic and he has drilled out the lock and has said the problem is the cable which releases has come loose. They have tried everthing to get it including using metal coat hangars etc but just cant get it. They only have the hole the size of the lock to gain access so dont have much room.

Any ideas what we can do? I have suggested breaking the light and accessing this way but am not sure if you can gain access this way.

Any help is much appreciated!

Im trying to sell my little clio, i've had a few people look at it but the main problem is the indicators. Signalling left is fine but when you signal right the indicator works ok until you put your foot on the brake pedal and it stops working. Take your foot off the brake and it works again.

Any ideas? Read more

Get someone to replicate the problem whilst you look at the lights from the outside. This will help identify which cluster is causing the problem.
