The only normal operation is high speed; normal speed doesn't work, wipers won't park, auto doesn't work, nor flick wipe.

Local indie repair man reckons it could be the motor itself.

Any thoughts out there? Thanks in advance.

Not wanting to offend our hosts.... But Cyril on the BBA-reman.com site is sure to know.

The usual cause of this problem on French cars is a failure of the intermittent wipe relay - usually blue. The Valeo relays are of particularly poor quality, and the normally closed contacts often fail. This has the effect of not allowing the motor to run at low speed or park normally. High speed running is not affected because current to the third motor brush does not pass through the relay - all functions controlled by the intermittent wipe relay are in the slow speed circuit only.

Luckily, these relays all have a common pin-out. The earlier Cartier relays (blue again) are fine, as are the black Hella units fitted by VW Audi. If you are hunting in a scrapyard, get one of these.

I'm afraid Valeo components have been the most common cause of failure on my PSA vehicle; they will never approach Japanese reliability until they ditch this supplier.

I fit lots of 306 wiper motors for various faults...

You'll find most Pug dealers will stock them.

An update, to round off this thread and provide info for anyone interested. Local indie man was right - he managed to borrow a new motor from a main dealer to test his theory and it solved the problem. Expensive, though - £140 plus labour.
