Following this guy yesterday while driving home I was thinking to myself what a bad driver this bloke was, talking on his mobile, not indicating, going over the white lines etc.
Then I thought, I wonder what drivers following me think of my driving.
Picture yourself following yourself home, or on a short journey down the shops. Do you follow the speed limit all the time, do you drink fizzy drinks while driving, do you park up on the kerb, do you park in disabled spaces just to nip into the shop quickly, do you put your seatbelt on as you are driving off, etc?
Are you really that good a driver?
I gave myself a mark out of 10 and scored a 10!! (Well, isn't everyone driving the best behind the wheel):-)
(To be trueful I think a 7.5 score for me would be fair).

SWMBO's car went into the garage today because of ringing sound on the front pads, which came on and off when I braked.
Garage fitted new pads. I was told that this is a new wear warning mechanism when the pads are on their way out. Whatever happened to the old warning light mechanism??

Just bought a 2001 TD5 S Discovery, but there is no handbook. The main dealers charge over £30 for one and can't supply for some weeks. Any ideas for getting a copy elsewhere or even photocopy of pages.
Also, does anyone know where you can get sidesteps (apart from main dealer?)

Hi,
I wonder if P11 Primera has pollen filter ? It does seem to be mentioned on various news groups occasionally, but the car manual doesn't mention it, neither does Haynes manual. Nor does dealer's service schedule include changing one.
This leads me to beleive that if it does exist it has never been changed, which would be long overdue.

OK, that sounds like a stupid question, but bare with me!
Ideally I'd just hand it back to a dealer and get a car from then, but I have seen a car I rather like being sold privately.
Whilst I am prepared to do the legwork for that, inspections etc I don't really want the hassle of selling my car privately.
Mores to the point I simply don't have a clue what it's worth either :-(
Would any garage take it off my hands do you reckon?
Oh - you'll be wanting to know what it is, well (now don't laugh) it's a:
Mk IV Golf, 1.4 S, S Reg - Jan 99. 2 Registered owners inc me. Full Service History, but 105K miles and it's been keyed :-(
Will I even get a fiver for it? :-(
Any help you guys can give me would be appreciated. Also on the buying privately front, I have read the Buying and Selling Guide, but if there are any other hints you would give me then please do!

"You should also drive round with a for sale sign on the back windows"
oh no, we're not allowed to do that where we live, the council have made a by-law to make it an offence!
thanks for the advice though :)
Hi,
I have metalic gray paintwork on a two year old car, it has collected a few minor scratches / scuffmarks plus a passenger has just decided to push the door open to its full extent against a wall, and that has left scratch marks on the door edge, I live in the Eastbourne area, does anyone know how I can restore the paintwork, and take out one pea sized dent on the bonnet?
Thanks

Try to locate your nearest smart repair specialist - often called things like chips away, dent master, dent wizard etc.

My husbands M Reg Corsa has started playing up. It 'sounds' rough when he starts it from cold in the morning, however, by the time he has got to the bottom of the road (about 200 yards) its sounds fine and drives OK. Any suggestions what it could be?
He's checked the basics (oil, water etc.) and all is well, but thats about as far as his mechanical knowledge goes. Car has done about 66,000 miles in total completely trouble free. Cam belt was replaced at 47,000. Read more
If you do not want to go to a main dealer, try a Bosch service centre. Leave the car overnight and a good place will wire it up in the cold outside, and push it in to plug in the computer. All might be revealed. My local Bosch centre had a habit of automatically changing the plugs as it was so cheap to them as they were about £1 each.
A cheaper option, and money well spent anyway on an older car is new plugs and leads for £40??? Might work?
I have a 110 HDI engine in a 406 Peugeot that seems very sluggish. Also I have never heard the turbo spin up and wondered if this was the reason ?
Any help appreciated. Read more
Had the same problem with my 406 last year. Repaired by my local garage, the condensor was £150, a regas £25 and labour £90 - all plus VAT.
I'm torn between whether to accept an offer from a buyer or not for my wife's car - details are:
Ford Focus 2.0 Zetec
Black metallic
Traction, e/windows, sunroof, 17inch factory alloys, 6 disk in dash CD changer
It's done 60k miles but with full Ford history - just serviced in Jan this year. 8m MOT, 4m Tax.
In great condition APART FROM bonnet is heavily stonechipped
Parkers values a 30k miles example at £6k. Buyer has offered me £5100.
What do you think? Very hard as there are lots of examples on autotrader and higher and lower prices.... But then again my bonnet really looks bad... and 60k miles is high....
Thoughts?

We really should try harder to arrange for that state of affairs to apply here. It would solve so many issues.
Or, at least, it would feel as if they were solved.
