I have a 110 HDI engine in a 406 Peugeot that seems very sluggish. Also I have never heard the turbo spin up and wondered if this was the reason ?
Any help appreciated.

Check hoses from turbo to manifold: may be disconnected?

Thanks
I'll stick it over the pit tomorrow, also see if I can get the aircon compressor to kick in. Regassed and reoiled with a diy kit tonight and still no joy.

nig.xl, If your aircon doesn't kick in, please don't do anything silly with it. If you turn it on then one of the two fans by the radiator will kick in. It will be the one by the condenser. If it doesn't, then either it is not getting a signal to turn on because there is a fuse/relay problem, or there is a pressure or other problem in the system deliberatly inhibiting it. You cannot, as far as I know, re-gas a system properly without it running whilst the gas is admitted. What your diy kit consisted of I don't know but I would get it checked out by a proffesional and tell him what you have done. You may well have had a leak, in which case the system may have injested damp air. This needs removing and the leak curing and some components changing. I do not work on car air con but I do work on refrigeration systems including split types and I can assure you that the pressures reached in such systems can and will hurt if you give them a chance to do so.
I am honestly not trying to be a kill joy, just trying to help make sure that backroomers stay healthy.

Thanks mjm appreciate your advice.
I have charged the low pressure side whilst as the instructions say having the air con running at full speed. Problem I found is that the system is not building enough pressure to start the compressor. Or as I am hoping the signal cable has dirty contacts or is loose / fallen off. I'll let you know how I get on.

I know it isn't DIY but the owner of this site contributed here, to an air-con thread, a few weeks ago and his site might help you.

Re DIY aircon, I read a thread a few weeks ago saying how dangerous these kits were!!
I also have a 406 HDi 110, and can clearly hear the turbo whistle with the window open. I also had sluggish performance, Peugoet main dealer, says "they are all like that"!!!! Took it to another dealer who adjusted the accelerator cable. This transfomed the car, he said that they are often set wrongly.

Many thanks for the replies, I also adjusted my throttle cable yesterday as there was a mile of slack and it seems miles better, you can hear the turbo fine now.
Seems the condensor has gone on the air con, under pressure it can be heard to leak, also had a sniffer on it, £140 plus vat, oh well.....

That's cheap for a condenser!!

Had the same problem with my 406 last year. Repaired by my local garage, the condensor was £150, a regas £25 and labour £90 - all plus VAT.
