What are people's opinion or experience of these?
Basically you become part of the club and rent a car by the hour - saves you buying a car, and supposedly easier, cheaper and more convenient than renting one.
If it is a concept you are not aware of www.whizzgo.co.uk gives more info on the scheme currently running in Leeds (no comments about the fact you have to drive a Citroen C3 please!!).
Would you ditch your car and join such a club, or is owing a vehicle preferable? Read more
I intend to visit Grimsby for the first time this Saturday. Where is the best long stay car park (from the point of view of being to find a space, especially as it's a Saturday) in or near the city centre?

Howdy all,
I've just had to drive through a 2 foot 'puddle' of water. I remembered to brake whilst driving to dry the brakes out but is there anything else I should check?
The car drove fine after the puddle by the way.
Sounds stupid but you know me!
Many thanks

Lol. Oh I had a great excuse. Nowhere to turn around or pull over. Not that good you may think. When there is a police car with blue lights on behind you you have to get moving!
He took it equally slow once I left it - but there were a lot oif police at the end of the road.
Yes - it was heavy rain. I was rounding the bend and the radio said "so and so lane is under 2 foot of water".
Great.

I have recently bought a 1977 Daimler Sovereign 4.2 coupe. It's not perfect but a nice car. The auto box (type 12 Borg Warner?), seems quite jerky and "hunts", on changes as i accelerate normally to say 30 - 40 mph. I have checked the fluid level using the gearbox dip-stick and it appears that it has been literally filled up! The questions are 1. How smooth should the change be? 2. Would excess gearbox fluid cause jerky changes? Read more
Hi Philip,
As ever, I would advise checking the basics first;
1) Fluid level and condition - make sure you check the fluid using the recommended method for your car (usually warmed up, engine running at tickover, in drive!!! be very careful - I usually ask an assistant to be in the car, with his foot on the brake). The fluid should not be dark brown / black or smelly.
2) Kickdown cable condition and adjustment - make sure it runs freely before trying to adjust it.
3) Selector lever mechanism, condition and adjustment
4) Brake band adjustment - usually, slacken locknut, tighten inner bolt to a specified torque, then back off a given angle, and tighten locknut - check the manual for the detail.
I hope this helps,

Has the fad for fitting bull bars to new vehicles almost run its course?
My impression is that I see fewer vehicles with them fitted.
Still too many on older vehicles!
The oddest sight was bull bars on a Smart car.
Are cheese graters on side lights no longer thought to be trendy? I hope so.
What is the impression in your area?

One good thing about bull bars is they serve as a quick identifier as to pink fluffy dice on the road .
I was driving home last night at about 1900 , serious twilight , on a country road , spotted coming towards me , an Amazon or a Mitsubishi 5 litre diesel battleship- type of thing, consuming major amounts of energy to propel a mega bull bar on the front , which had attached to it about 6 various lights to supplement the installed ones .Strangely as the twonk driving didn\'t seem to realise ,driving as he was on just the tiny parking lights ,he was managing to break the law by having his car under-illuminated .
Is there a correlation between people who fit bull bars , and having :
Knicker blinds in your lounge
A door bell that plays a tune
That strange phoney lead glaxing people put on their windows
We must be told!
Please can you offer advice on what diesel car to buy. I will average 500 miles a week mostley motorway, but need a car that will hack 80MPH with ease but still give good MPG. Budget is up to £4000, not worried about looks but need very good reliability. Please help. many thanks.........

Rover 420 sdi - not the world's coolest car, but does me very nicely - 1200 miles in the last 4 days no problem for me in mine. Rated very reasonably by HJ in the car by car breakdown. You can find some from £2k upwards on something like an R or S plate.

Be very careful about where you park in Grimsby. Some thirty odd years ago I was looking for a parking space in the town centre / Freeman street / Victoria street area and found an empty yard at the back of a solicitors office. Just a little 'No parking' sign. Bags of room and not a car in sight. I parked there for about 10mins. (Ok. I shouldn't have). On my return there was a large sheet of very sticky brown paper attached to my windscreen. It took an hour to remove it.
