My Citroen Synergie (which I rashly offered to the local dealer as a trade-in with 12 months MoT) failed said MoT today. Apparently the indicators were too white. (I thought white was an absolute; isn't this a bit like being a bit pregnant?).

Anyway, loth to throw anything away that works, I removed the four bulbs, scraped off the flaking orange varnish and treated them to 2 coats of Tamyia acrylic x-26 clear orange paint. The indicators are now orange but I don't know how long the paint will last. BTW the paint was bought in a model shop a year or two ago. Apart from scraping my knuckles taking the ballast (sorry, CD changer) out of the void next to the o/s rear light, the operation went without a hitch.

I see in this mornings paper that the those well known petrolheads Lib Dems want to tax the countries 1.2 million 4x4 owners off the road.

A sensible solution to our environmental and congestion problems, or a mean minded attempt to grab the "I can't have one so no one else should" voter? Read more

i dont even listen to the lib dems anymore.

nothing but an oppourtunist fringe party.

will be a sad day for politics if they ever become the second main party.

btw, isnt funy how my current local lib dem councillor has a 4x4 - naemly a vauxhall frontera - some people have no taste!

And the head of the council drives a 3.0 v6 omega (also lib dem) - wonder how much mpg its doing around town.

Sorry, but typical politicians and very typical lib dems, HYPOCRITE OPPOURTUNISTS!
If you think you know best for me and that sharing a sweaty old bus, crowded and full of smoke is what is best - then join me and we will both wallow in your folly!

I replaced the Cooling System Temperature Sensor on my Freelander the other day in the hope that this would cure a problem with the Cooling Fan not kicking-in causing the engine to overheat. When draining the Coolant from the engine, I noticed that the fluid seemed to be of very high viscosity - almost treacle-like. The engine was cold. Is this normal ???. Note: I got the car back from the garage recently after having a cylinder-head gasket replaced - I'm worried the garage might not have used the right ratio of water/anti-freeze, which might also exasperate the overheating problem ?.

Cheers,

Did you drain the coolant just to replace the sensor?

What colour was the coolant, btw?

Afternoon all,

I have a 95 Cavalier, I noticed that I had turned my headlights on at the switch but no beam, sidelights on though, through trial and error I found that lightly pushing the indicator stalk up or down, not even enough to put the indicator light on, would put the headlights on. This works for a short period and then they go off resulting in a light touch on the indicator stalk again. Can the stalk be replaced as a unit as in earlier models is this likely to reolve the problem, any other ideas? Needless to say No.1 son won't be "driving/hanging off the indicator stalk" anytime soon.

Thanks

Common problem Dave - I've done two Vauxhall stalks over the last month, that gave exactly the same symptoms.

Also common on F*rds, too.

Every morning a guy circulates the company car park to find a 'double end on' empty bay! why, because he can't reverse a car into a parking slot! Has an 'in & out drive' at home and avoids 'cul de sacs' and muilt storey car parks!

The local doctor at the end of our road reverses using a mobile phone while his wife directs him on her mobile phone walking behind!

And these people are allowed to have a licence!

Whats your amusing story?

I live in a very quiet street, where one of my neighbour's parents has one of those loud "Attention! Vehicle Reversing!" jobbies ... on a beat up old Escort. He still can't revers for toffee, and makes a complete dogs dinner every time. Well, it makes the rest of us smile, though I've also noticed that my neighbour also always nips back inside out of sight before his Dad fires up!

As chance would have it I will be in the Blackbushe area with an hour to kill on this Friday coming so will likely drop in on the auctions. Get a tea and a bacon sarnie there anyway.

So if your there and you see a tall fat bloke dressed in leather say hi because it will probably be me... Read more

Green?? Can't you go make yourself a fresh brew instead of drinking a moldy one?

I am considering at the end of the year buying a diesel as i do 500 miles a week on motorways. I will have about £2500-£3000 to spend. Can anyone give some ideas on what is the best diesel for the amount of money i will have.

Many thanks

Nobody's mentioned 406 yet

Neither as far as I can see has BMW been discussed.
I have a 320d which at 53k miles behaves just like on Day One, except for the benefit that now (3½ years on), it's just about run in.
I took it to Munich in 2003 and checked it out into the 120+ mph area by GPS (would have gone quicker but I was actually catching up to the locals very quickly and had to back off). At the same time the sheer silence of the car (at just over 4000 rpm) allowed me still to be able to listen comfortably to my wacky variety of music tastes.
The car has been 100% reliable (not even 0.1% less). On the above trip I got 47 mpg overall and since new (just checked), 53.7 mpg.
Suits me anyway.

I am considering buying my girlfriend a nearly new Toyota MR2 from one of my local Toyota dealers.
I wonder if any other backroomers have experience of Toyota PCP interest rates (APR). As I want to be armed with some details when i start to do the deal. Details of other PCP APR rates would also be useful if anyone has them.
I know for example Drive the deal PCP interest rates are 10.9% but i was hoping to do a bit better than that. Read more

This skinny car I like. Handles well and does a quarter mile in 12 seconds with a 0-60 of 4 seconds :-) At $85k it is a little steep but they do a $18k version which is a slower at 7 seconds 0-60 with a choice of front or rear wheel drive. The next one up from that at $40,000 is 4 wheel drive. Range is 80 miles so it is pretty decent.

At last something to make a petrol head go electric :-)

They might need to get the price down too. $85K is a bit steep.

Picking up my new Leon from Motorpoint this afternoon.

Do you get to give the car an inspection before you hand over the bank draft?
Been reading too many horror stories on the net of arriving to collect and it being newly scratched / bits missing that were there when you agreed to buy / 200 extra miles on clock etc etc... Read more

philomeena can you bring us up to date with this one. Did you get the chance to inspect the car before hand over and was it OK.
