Hello
I have just installed a radio on my friends vehicle
Its a 1,2 mk2 fiat punto (Basic model)
We have installed the subwoofer Blaupunkt fiat radio
When we switch it on it says check
We have found a forum that says two wired are missing because the basic model was not issued with a better radio
What would it take to get this good radio working

We have Tiscali broadband 256K. Does anyone know if this is sufficient for playing X box live or should we change a)ISP, b)bandwidth or c) both?

Has anyone tried any of these magnetic fuel saving devices like Ecoflow on their cars? Most of the stuff on the net about such devices from a variety of makers says they work, and all give a similar scientific explanation of how.
Do these things give fuel savings of up to 10%? I worked out that if I bought an Ecoflow for £50 and it saved me 10% (55 mpg instead of 50) in fuel, it'd pay for itself after 7000 miles.

Most modern cars have engine trays now so no need for a gap, unless you meant a gap for the hot air to come out through, well the hot air would find a way out, just leaving a few inches here or there would do it. Or put a vent through into the wheel arch.
I like your idea of a bit of body shell under the car.
Re: Ecotec it works by fixing it to the inlet manifold, usually in the main vacuum hose (from brake servo?). The unit is designed to allow a pin hole of air to flow into the manifold. As the air comes in the unit makes a noise (caused by the air coming through some sort of valve). It makes a noise so you can feel good about buying it, "at least it's working" you think to yourself as you drive along.
I played with the ide of buying one for my taxi, because as a taxi driver I knew exactly how much fuel I used each week, as I had pretty good fuel records, so any benefits would have become fairly quickly noticeable to me. I decided against it because:
1. I used LPG most of the time and that was dirt cheap anyway, and I thought the unit would have less chance of working with LPG than it did with petrol.
2. They didn't offer any money back gaurantee, all they offered was a choice of four colours, for something under the bonnet that made a buzzing sound.
If it worked they would have it independently tested under laboratory conditions, constant load. But they don't so all they have is dubious customer testimonials "It worked for me!" The only logical conclusion one can reach is that it doesn't work and spend that 50 quid on a new power tool instead.
I was recently camera flashed from a Gatso camera from the opposite side of the road (it was not a Truvelo). To be fair it was a 'fair cop', but wondered if I was likely to hear anything and if anyone had a similar experoence. There are lines on 'my' side of the road, but no camera. I wondered how active the radar of the Gatso is, and if it can be calibrated for front shots?
Heres hoping!....David K Read more

It seems that sales figure for this month arn\'t going to be good for MG-Rover according to

The company can\'t last to much longer if sales continue this way, so what would back roomers do to save the company ? Read more

On reflection, you\'re right! But an added twist: Land Rovers retro-fitted with Perkins Prima engines out of old Montegos are eligible to compete in Land Rover club trials because this engine was listed in the Rover parts catalogue!

Hi!
I've posted the odd comment on the discussion forum about how my 94 Passat estate 1.9 Tdi has done 145,000 miles and hasn't missed a beat. Perhaps it serves me right but it has now developed a very occasional misfire!
The engine runs normally for days, then out of the blue there's a sudden one-off misfire followed by a kick of extra power. It's like a heart palpitation, that's the best analogy! It seems like a whole-engine cut-out followed by an immediate 'bump' re-start. After this the car runs normally, maybe for days, before the next occurrence. It happens under gentle acceleration. Other than this the engine starts and runs perfectly.
My thoughts are that it could be:
-contaminated fuel
-poor fuel flow (gunged fuel filter)
-faulty injector pump
-faulty engine management
-or (less likely) - problem with airflow into engine.
Any advice.

I had a similar problem on a 94M 1.9TDi passat. I sprayed some contact cleaner/lubricant on all electrical connectors (Take apart spray inside both halves and re-assemble)in the engine compartment. This cured my problem
It might work for you.
Can any one provide a definitive 'yes' or 'no' answer on whether the Mazda 323 (year of manufacture 2001) has a belt or chain driven camshaft on the 1.6 engine?
It's my understanding that the 1.6 engine in the new mazda3 is chain driven and was wondering if this is the case with the 1.6 engine in the proceding 323 model.
If it's a chain does that remove the necessity to replace every several thousand miles? Read more
No! all rubber drive belts deteriorate with age as well as miles.
Do not leave a belt longer than 5 years/50000 miles if you value the car.
I have seen a 2CV advertised,
1985
VGC
25,000miles
has been garaged since 1993 (owner abroad)
price: 750
I am thinking to offer about 500 or less
I have done a little research and found that pre 1986 are not supposed to run on unleaded, this is a slight cause for concern, there are reports of some cars running ok on unleaded.
The sunroof is also a concern (will it leak?)
Another thing is that I don't have a garage, so it will be on the street, I think a car like that should be kept in a garage.
I like the idea of having a nice car like this, I am able to do my own repairs.
If you have experience of 2CV's please give me your views on them.

The only reason to BUY a 2CV is if you really WANT a 2CV. Modern diesel family cars are more economical, perform much better and are more environmentally friendly.
I don't know much about 2CVs, I confess. I did once drive one a few miles - it was the left hand drive 435cc version - so slow it wasn't available in UK!
I once saw a minor no-injury bump where a 2CV and Vauxhall Victor FD had collided. The Vauxhall was virtually undamaged and the front of the 2CV, though not smashed in, was completely knocked askew.

Silly question but where would I find the windscreen washer pump on a 2000 Mondeo 1.8D ?
Thanks

Eureka !
My washers have been /knackered/poor for 3 years, so much so they failed the MOT this week but ...excellent news for fixing blockage:
Empty reservoir using syphon (none of that taking off the bumper /radiator cover nonsense for a wash-wipe)
Tip in 2 denture tablets - yes you read right - denture tablets, with the water as instructions on packet. Leave for 20 minutes.
Blast into the reservoir with hose, as powerful as poss.
Stand back and rejoice at the clean jet of water now adorning your windscreen !
This cost me this much:
Denture tablets 30p
Tube (flexible from fish shop) £2.79
Better than getting an overpriced mechanic to sort it !
Happy washing :o)
If the speedo works OK on the car but the mileometer doesnt is that a fail on the MOT?

The burden of responsibility is greater from a salesman, in that it has to be fit for the buyer's known purpose.
Did you ever get to the bottom of the "check" code on this radio??
