I work for a local education authority, so yes, I'm familiar with the current trends to silly jargon. Thankfully, I'm not a teacher (there's not enough money in the world) so I don't get to "look after" children but I'd agree that some kids are very challenging.

It's a sign that I'm getting old that I spend a lot of time thinking "we wouldn't have tried that/got away with that in our day".

You've not had a meeting at our place if you've not mentioned pedagogy....

Er, car link, er, er, teachers drive cars and often the same ones at a school - I know of a primary with 4 MINIs. Phew, back on track.

Following on from the regular threads regarding terrible driving (tailgating and undertaking), I've given it a little thought.

As regular readers will know, I do between 120 miles and 150 miles a day, mainly on motorways, mostly on the M3.

I reckon that, on average, I see an appallingly dangerous bit of driving every other day. I also note the complete absence of Traffic Police at any point on my journey ( I probably see one every month, never during busy times ). In light of this absence of any law enforcement, I wonder if the addition of a camcorder on my dashboard would help in the process of law-enforcement. Switch it on when I set off and leave it pointing forwards. Thus, when I see the nutty swooping undertaking manoeuvre that I saw in front of me this morning, I just send the tape in with my witness statement and hope that the Police take some action. If nothing happens on my journey I just rewind the tape and record tomorrow's lunacies on it. A similar camera pointing backwards and hey presto, the tailgater gets it, though that might well cost a tape a day.

I'm interested in the concept (I accept that I'm unlikely to follow this through into action) and what people think the legal position would be.

I should stress that I'm not driven by anger at other's behaviour ( years as a courier calmed my temper ) but by the desire to see dangerous drivers accounting for their actions in the hope that the roads might just be that teensy bit safer.

PS. I'm not an advocate of a Police state; I'd be interested if anyone thinks this concept would be a step backwards in that respect. Read more

Best put the recorder well clear of the camera, if the camera is to be near the impact point....

Yes, it\'s official (Channel 5 last night), along with those funny rear-wheel drive cars, Skoda made UFO\'s for the Germans in WW2...

Presumably, the Skoda UFO didn\'t have the nicely damped grab-handles, like the proper German-made UFO\'s ...

Thanks for your replies everyone.I've offered 550 for it,so we'll see what happens. It's done 66,500 miles which seems low for a car of its age(1993).Only 6 months of MOT left on it.Documentation is apparently available for all new parts, plus full service history and past MOT's.Any comments appreciated.Cheers.

A trader who I know quite well has a customers Bob Marley for sale as above. W reg 42 k silver. Looks very tidy asking £14250, but has hinted at 13k and it is still there. I am thinking of making a silly offer and I mean silly. I think Glasses says 14k trade and something like 17.5k retail which I feel is ridiculous. Q.1 Is this engine man enough really to haul this barge? Q.2 Any known probs with the beast. Q.3 avoid altogether? We only cover 3-4 thousand miles per annum privately.

Regards as ever. Read more

Apparently the owner has had an offer of 10k and he
says he'd rather dig a hole and bury it.

Yes, heard that one a few times. The other one is 'let it rot on the driveway'.

I have just taken delivery of a new X-Type 2.0 Diesel Classic - it's fantastic, just one niggle. A noise starts within a few seconds of starting the engine and is audible above the background sound of the engine. It's an irregular clicking sound which can only be heard from inside - a bit like indicator clicks or the noise electric fuel pumps sometimes make, but not as loud and, as I say, irregular. I may only have noticed it because the car is otherwise so quiet, but I was wondering if anyone knows what it might be. Other than that, I'm very happy with the car. Many thanks. Read more

I have recently converted my 4.2LSE Range Rover to gas. It runs fine on petrol but hunts at idle on gas although from 1000rpm on it is fine. Does any one have any words of wisdom? Read more

Hi,

Ive just bought a 94 105 XND. It all seemed fine when I bought it but Ive just noticed, parked in a car park, that it leans to the right. Or rather the car leans at the front to wards the drivers side. The car drives farly well, goes in a strait line, brakes in a strate line and goes round corners ok. But putting my hand between the top of the frony wheels and the arch there is a bigger gap on the passendure side compared to the drivers side by about an inch or so!

I just can see what is wrong. Ive had a good look under niether and cant see any damage. The strut looks ok just on the drives side the bottom of the spring it high up into the car. Ive had a feel round the spring but it does not seem to be broken.

Any one elce had this on this little car? Presumably its the same layout as a saxo. Or could it be someing at the back upsetting the front surspention. It seems leveler at the back though. Just hopeing i havny just bought a lemon :/ Read more
