Am I right in thinking that Nissan is the largest of the two?
Nissan appears to have greater world market penetration especially in the US and Asia. Read more
Last year on 25th May I booked a crossing by Eurotunnel for the 27th May for a three day stay in France. It cost £59.
I have just tried to do the same again for next week and received a quote of £173. Tried P&O, Seafrance and Speedferries. Cheapest was Speedferries at £140.
I won't be going - think I'll buy some cheap Tesco wine and a couple of cigars instead.
How can they justify that price increase?
Daft thing is, I have booked for car and caravan in July/August for £126 Read more
Is it not half term next week?
runboy, think you've hit the nail on the head, not only Bank Holiday weekend but also the start of half-term, not exactly off-peak I would suggest.
Also it would appear that cross channel prices have increased over the last year or so, or rather, the large discounts are less available. It seems that the various ferry operators and the tunnel operators have realised that it is better for each other that they learn to live together rather than try and cut each others throats, at least for them; not so good for Joe Public.

I\'ve got a Land Cruiser with a 4.2TD (direct injection). When you toe it, it sounds like it\'s pinking, and as soon as you back off, it stops. They\'ve had big end problems with these, but I replaced all the shells last year. It\'s possible one of these has gone bad or spun, but before I drop the sump again, has anyone any other ideas? Can diesels pink? Read more
Sounds very similar indeed...all usual suspects checked and aligned. Been doing it for well over two years and hasn't gone bang...There is one wierd thing though, certain weather conditions and it doesn't do it, normally on days with exceptionally high barometric pressure she runs real sweet. i know there is an atmos. pressure sensor but it's not reporting itself as faulty. :-/
Today's GP was rather more interesting than others of late, possibly because Mr S......... didn't lead from start to finish.
Did any one else find it ironic that the cars, which in road use are reckoned to be extremely reliable, ie Toyota and Honda, blow up regularly; while the Renault which for normal motoring does not have a good reputation for reliability (Sorry RF) just keeps going!
Perhaps there is a logical explanation? Read more
Yes GP drivers dont want to reveal the braking points. I am sure that if MS didnt suddenly brkae very hard then the telemetry would reveal that and Ferrari would have it as proof. Wait they do and they didnt mention it, how strange!
I want to insure a Transit minibus for private 'social, domestic and pleasure' use only. Does anyone know where I can get a sensible 'non commercial' insurance quote?

Probably best to chat a local broker, rather than trying on-line, or the usual over the phone companies.
Try A Plan luton 01582 420101, the broker I've been with for ever - no other connection, but always provided good service. They have several branches now. The'yve helped a number of my customers in same situation as you.
Things a bit different now, I think, 'cos previously all quotes would end up coming from firm called Minibus Plus.
Remember to let them know of any alterations/modifications made. This includes REMOVAL of seats, as lots people do, to carry more stuff & less bodies.
Let us know how you get on.
I have a 2nd hand ?W? reg Vauxhall Zafira 1800 Elagence.
Everytime we have a bit of sunshine, the alarm goes off.
I think it is something to do with the internal ultrasonic sensors.
Is there anyway of turning these off, but sill have the rest of the alarm on ie. the doors and hatch.
Thanks in advance

Is there a button on the dash with an LED that flashes when the alarm is set? If it is anything like the Vectra alarm then pressing this button as you get out of the car will disable the ultrasonics when the doors are locked.
My brother in-law had a car stolen recently, reported to the boys some three weeks ago with no leads or response.
Over the last two weeks the car has been seen being driven by youths and reported to the police as being seen in the area and giving details etc.
This week a family member found the car nearby and blocked the car from escaping and the boys informed of where the car was with the youths nearby.
After phoning some 13 times by various members of the family with a lack of response, the Boys in blue attitude was "its only a stolen car". The cars value is £4000.00 plus.
Whats the point in us paying comunity charges for them, and if a motorist does something wrong then you get a response and no wander our insurance are so high with a response like this. Read more
I expect people have had a range of response from the BiB. Here my polar opposites. Called when No. 1 daughter aged 18 hadn't returned home at a normal hour (by 3o'clock am) and we had immediate response from uniformed guys who visited within the hour, took details etc and went for search. Luckily she turned out to have gone awol to a friends - no harm done and called off any further fuss. Second event (motoring connection now follows) was a local scrote who was in the habit of selling small packages of a chemical substance to visiting toe-rags who called by Saxo, Escort etc. Said to local police, i say, don't think they have a licence for that kind of stuff and their many customers try to set new 0-60 record in the cul-de- sac. Police obligingly pull up one vehicle, to find it apparently clear. Offended toe-rag asks why, and Mr Plod says - oh, a neighbour grassed you. Toe-rag returns to local hooligan and announces amusing tale loudly. Terminal loss of confidence in local BiB follows.
Can some kind soul tell me if a Favorit Flairline LX1e has a separate gearbox oil system or does the engine oil act as lubricant for the gearbox.
Many thanks.

Don't assume that the gearbox/diff uses gear oil. some use engine oil. Check with a dealer first. Mikey
If you plan to motor to the continent it is best to remember the tyre scam.
As the attendant is filling your tank he will bend down and examine the front tyres closely. He will gesture to you to look at one of the tyres to see the big nail which is bedded into the tread. He will commiserate with you and suggest that he can replace the tyre more cheaply than the necessary charges for calling out the motoring organisation when you are a few miles down the road. He might also point out that, because the police are very hard on foreign travellers, it would be best to replace both tyres so that they are a match.
In this case get SWMBOs nail file and prise the nail out. You might find that it is about 3mm long and carefully sharpened so that he can press it in easily. He might have gained your perfectly serviceable tyre and the profit from the new one.
Alternatively, he might point out that the tread is worn very close to the legal limit, and the police are very-very mean about that kind of thing. This one will not happen to Backroomers of course, because their tyres will be perfect.
He will be positively charming and helpful, and you will feel at the time that he is a very nice chap.

LOL the Filipino jeepneys are an automotive sub-culture all to themselves. Those big mud-flaps on the rear carry inscriptions that would have Shakespeare scratching his head for inspiration in response.
My favorite is "God Help Us". That says it all.
My 1994 Golf Mk3 1.4 (ABD engine) has a head gasket problem, I assume, but has had for about a year, which seems like a long time for a dodgy head gasket to last. The main symptom is pressurisation of the cooling system. I can run the car one day, and when I remove the expansion tank cap the next there is obvious excess pressure; if I don't release the pressure gradually coolant sprays out. It gets through a bit of coolant (0.5 litres every few hundred miles), although some of this is what sprays out when I remove the cap. Also the level in the tank is obviously depressed after a day or two of running, but rises when I release the pressure. There are not other obvious symptoms such as oil in the coolant, coolant in the oil or overheating.
The problem became apparent after I replaced the radiator (and hoses) about a year ago (although this may have cause the leak in the old radiator). I assume that exhaust gas (or air) must be getting into the system, hence the depressed level after running; I have not observed any swollen hoses etc before releasing the pressure. It is possible that some coolant is forced out of the tank during running. I replaced the expansion tank cap, in case this wasn't releasing the pressure built up under normal operation. I think I have also noticed some bubbles entering the tank when running the engine with the cap off.
Any ideas? Do I just wait until the head gasket gives up properly? I don't feel inclined to do anything about it until it does, although I know I should! Read more
My first BX TD always had pressure in the cooling system when cold, and used a small amount of water - being nieve I assumed this was normal and just kept driving it - for 70,000 miles! Eventually it started to use quite a bit of water and looking in the expansion tank lots of bubbles were evident, so I had to change the head gasket - of course this happened the day AFTER I spent £250 on it to get a new MOT.....

Is it illogical? It must be Citroen....
Renault is buying Nissan it owns a fair % of shares in it at the moment and wants to use each other advanatges to its best ie use the nissan delaerships to sell Renaults and use Nissans presence in the US to sell Renaults in a few yrs time.
