Hi, I'm bringing together evidence for a possible legal action against Renault. I've been sold two Espaces with the same rust problem on the window frames. Because the window frames are made of un - galvanized mild steel, they are bound to rust as they have no protection at all. If you've had a similar problem, I'd love to hear from you. Car manufacturers should not sell cars with known problems!

Hi There,
My espace is 11 months (2.2 Dci Grand) only and this morning discovered rust on the roof. Its where the roof and side panel joins (where sliding the roof bar rails are). Its on both sides of the car. Not somewhere stone chips can get. Also the screws holding the roof bars in are rusting! I'm going down to my local renault dealer tomorrow to get the problem verified as per the warrentee and then depending on the reaction by renault, I might go down the legal route. Not sure what my rights are to a replacement new car if the rust is on major structural joins on a less than year old car.

Has anyone taken a look at the new Kia Picanto?

It looks awesome value at under £5500 for the "base" GS model.

57 mpg, cheap tax, cheap to buy, insurance GP2, good warranty.

ABS with EBD
5 Doors
Excellent split fold rear seats.
Electric Windows
Central Locking
CD Player with MP3.

I bet this will do some serious damage to Fiat Panda, Punto and Daihatsu Charade sales, not to mention Lupo and Ka.

Any pitfalls?

It's a Kia so anyone who is brand-sensitive at this end of the market will still go for a Panda.

The car that's really got to be worried by it is the Matiz; there are big discounts on them already to compensate.

got a really nice phoncall 2day from Audi
where would you like your £1000 cheque sent.
i couldnt believe my ears, so i told them to bring it round to the house hand delivered before weds night 5pm, as i would be posting the witness statements and other assoisiated documents and a copy of the unfair terms 1999, to them and to the court manager, after this time. the docs needed to be in before 28th May.
he said ok not a problem.

I did go and see a solictor around 2 weeks ago, who said my case was 90% favourable, as it was a direct violation of the unfair terms 1999
www.hmso.gov.uk/si/si1999/19992083.htm
he gave me half an hour free, and found the above document for me, and also wrote an A4 sheet explaining these terms to the court.

Can i please thank all those that helped me in this matter, and i would buy all of you a nice cold beer.
and those that said to wait before the date they will send me a cheque=you were right !

if any mod can post a link to my other loooong thread, i would be most grateful, as this might help others, for the same kind of thing, by using the search button on this website.
think it was lost £1000 deposit.

again cheers you guys ;·) Read more

Agreed, VTE. Not sure that HJ is really a crusading type of journalist but that's a matter for him.

As for the contract violating UCTA or the Unfair Terms in Consumer Contacts Regs - it may or may not be a marque-wide policy. It could simply be a standard contract of this dealer group. Generally lawyers don't like drafting unenforceable provisions, because you can then be left with nothing more than an agreement to agree, which under English law can be walked away from at any time.

Of course, if the unfair provision is likely to intimidate more people into complying than cutting and running, then it's done its job.

As far as there being nothing stopping them from turning around and saying "We're only giving you a fiver for your p/x" - well if the contract is drafted widely, or badly enough (depending on your point of view) then you're right, except that's what courts have been interpreting against, by and large, for the last 150 years and UCTA and the Consumer Contracts Regs have been stopping for the last 25 or so.

Went along to my local BCA yesterday hoping to find a medium sized Diesel for under 3k. A very nice looking 99 T Vectra CDX DTi (sold as seen unwarranted mileage, large dealership p/x)caught my eye. The mileage was high at 116k but with history to about 85 I wasn't unduly worried. Apart from a couple of tyres the car looked in A1 condition. Being new to auction bidding I was a little nervous so I went to pick a prime spot in the auction hall. I had a budget of £2500 so that was the absolute limit. Along came the car, no smoke or nasty noises although I had failed to check under the bonnet. Bidding stopped at £2100. I was the new owner. Got the car home, all seemed well. Radio was in 'safe' mode, typical. Thought I better give the car a thourough once over. Pulled the bonnet and straight away spotted the gunge on the inside of the expansion tank. Upon inspection the water was more oil than water. Nightmare. Straight to my local garage the prognosis was more than likely a cracked head. Not cheap to sort and I need reliable transport by the 7th june. Just had a phone call off the garage and apparently the head has been off recently which more than likely means they tried to repair the head but for whatever reason its failed so maybe looking at a new head. Got to go and have a chat with the mechanic tomorrw. I dont want to bodge the car and run it through the block simply because I wouldn't wish this on anyone else.
Moral of this story? Just be very careful. I am not a total novice and simply missed some basic checks due to auction nerves. Its all to easy and mistakes are costly, in this case probably the thick end of £1000.

Sounds good- what part of the country do you live in, i wouldnt mind some of those prices?! I wondered if some of the big traders had pet mechanics they employed.

My Dad died recently and his old Peugeot 309 is in his garage. We need to sell it and I wondered how much it was worth (roughly) for a quick sale. It's a J reg 309 Style (1300cc engine) 83k, regularly serviced, white, good nick, no scratches/dents, paint a little oxidised but I will give it a quick t-cut and wax, uphostery not worn, no electric windows or anything flash like that, manual tilt & slide sunroof - one of those quite big Peugeot type ones,6 months MOT and tax.
I was thinking of about £300 - or am I being too optimistic?
Any thoughts?
Thanks

Afternoon!

Spent way too long at the jet wash yesterday (and burnt my arm, but that's another story) getting the brake dust off my alloys.

As Polo needs new brake pads anyway, I toddled along to Halfords to see if they had any of the Green Stuff ones I've read about that don't make your wheels dirty. Halfords monkey proceeded to explain to me that "dirty wheels mean your brakes are good, as it's softer pads that work better. Those Green Stuff ones are no good because they're too hard."

Is he right?

Are Green Stuff (if I've got the right name) any good? If so, who sells them?

Thanks!

i) You will *need* to warm the breaks up when you

1st drive, particularly in the mornings.
ii) They will not be as effective when cold
iii) They will wear your standard discs very quickly compared to
normal pads. EBC pads are often fitted in conjunction with hardened
discs.

Hang on, they aren't ceramic race brakes! I'm no tech expert but haven't noticed any difference when cold and my discs are no more worn than I'd expect them to be. Maybe you are confusing them with RedStuff which are a true track day/semi race pad?

EBC do sell their own discs too, vented and patterned etc etc. But they seem expensive compared to my standard ones so I decided not to go with them.

Hi, I was wondering how crucial it is to have the belt changed on time. Mine is due on 80,000, it\'s on 78,000 now should I do it now (I\'m planning a long weekend journey around 600 miles) or should I have it done now. Also is there anything else I neeed to know about having a timing belt changed on this model? Thanks Read more

A Quinton Hazel kit which contains belt, tensioner and guidewheel is about £38+VAT

How they can do them for that money is beyond me.

The kit for my AFN 1.9TDi Audi A4 was only £44+VAT

Hi all,

I recently bought a used N registered Vauxhall Corsa Sport, 1.4 16v. For the past couple of months it has run very nicely, until the recent spell of warm weather.

When in standing traffic, or even pulled up at traffic lights, once the temperature guage begins to rise above 90c the fault light on the dash comes on. Using the trusted paper clip method to display the fault code it shows 71, which apparantly indicates a high voltage at the Air Temperature Sensor. I am assuming this is the sensor in the hose to which the air box is connected.

Does anyone have any experience of this fault? I don't know if the sensor is faulty, or if there is another valid reason for the sensor to be showing a high voltage, perhaps indicating a fault elsewhere... and at the moment - a trip to the Vauxhall garage is at the bottom of the list in terms of things id like to spend money on. If anyone has any suggestions as to what it could be, or if there is anything else I could check, it would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Damien. Read more

Mine also goes out pretty much as soon as I get moving again allowing the temp to fall. Yes the code will be stored if the light goes out, at least until the battery is disconnected.
