95-96 Corsa Sport (1.4 16v) Fault Light. - djw
Hi all,

I recently bought a used N registered Vauxhall Corsa Sport, 1.4 16v. For the past couple of months it has run very nicely, until the recent spell of warm weather.

When in standing traffic, or even pulled up at traffic lights, once the temperature guage begins to rise above 90c the fault light on the dash comes on. Using the trusted paper clip method to display the fault code it shows 71, which apparantly indicates a high voltage at the Air Temperature Sensor. I am assuming this is the sensor in the hose to which the air box is connected.

Does anyone have any experience of this fault? I don't know if the sensor is faulty, or if there is another valid reason for the sensor to be showing a high voltage, perhaps indicating a fault elsewhere... and at the moment - a trip to the Vauxhall garage is at the bottom of the list in terms of things id like to spend money on. If anyone has any suggestions as to what it could be, or if there is anything else I could check, it would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Damien.

I have the same problem with a 97 1.4 Astra, only occurs during hot weather but the orange fault light goes out soon after the temperature falls, does it store the fault code if the light goes out?

Mine also goes out pretty much as soon as I get moving again allowing the temp to fall. Yes the code will be stored if the light goes out, at least until the battery is disconnected.
