I notice that some cars have the rad. cooling fan controlled via the ignition circuit and some via a permanent live feed.
My latest car has the ignition feed and is therefore often switched off with the fan in operation.
Should I consider re-wiring the circuit to give a permanent live feed?
Would there be any benefit?

Over the past 3 months or so my car\'s fuel consumption has increased markedly. Average consumption used to be in the high fifties. Now it\'s about 50 mpg. The car is a Peugeot diesel (mileage 204,000) I can\'t detect a leak & my driving pattern hasn\'t altered. I suspect it\'s a symptom of a greater malaise,I\'m just not sure what though. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Ben - still only 26K - I got it last June at 18K, one owner, FSH (though that was pretty brief!) and in the colour I fancied. As far as I can judge from tyres, brake pads and pedal rubbers, the mileage is genuine, and the selling garage is in the Cheshire Trading Standards warranted mileage scheme. I assume it may have been a repo. car. Oil consumption is not measurable, probably less than 1 litre/20K miles.
When I got it the 'throttle' was sluggish, so I put it on a regime of regular shots of conditioner for a while, and took up the slack in the cable, which helped a good deal. None of it did much to the fuel consumption though, till recently - the change was quite sudden, noticeable and genuine.
Can anyone out there who is clued-up on Renault vans, please give me some insight as to what is the problem with "Traffic" gearboxes ? Normally voluable local recon box man will not even talk about these.
Any input much appreciated. petel@clara.co.uk Read more

I have been using Hammerite rust remover and No.1 primer in the process of restoring my vw beetle, my mate has suggested that a zinc based paint would be better, directly applied to a brushed surface, rather than rust remover treated, Any ideas? Read more
Take a look at the autoexpress website product tests, they recommend Jenolite Double Act at 2.99 for 250ml.

I live in a house which is on an un adopted lane, with several houses on it. with one house owning the lane. In my deeds it says i have full access to the lane and must pay a contribution to maintaining the lane and this is the same for the other two residents on the lane. We have all tried to maintain the lane or our little parts of it at some stage over the past four years as it is in a terrible state and have always been told by the owners of the lane to stop as they like the lane the way it is. Anyway they are now trying to sell there house and have issued me and my three neighbours with the bill for total rebuilding a of a new surface and told us if we do not pay a four figure sum each within 2 weeks when the work commences then our right of way will be withheld and we wil not be able to use the lane!!!!! can they do this???? where do i stand, as i want to get the lane fixed as its ruining my car but not paying that much without knowing what they are doing to the lane and do not know what the end result will be Read more
Apologies for going slightly off-topic, but what is the difference between an unadopted road and a private road?
Is there any reason why Automatic Toyota Celicas are available in the US and Japan but not in Europe? Does anyone know if Toyota are likely to launch one over here? Read more
Toyota would say a history of limited demand for small automatics in Europe (small meaning anything with an engine size of less than 2 litres). Any real demand from punters for sports transmissions is limited to sequential manuals (like the MR2) and more ratios (celica has 6).
I really can't see that the Celica would make a good automatic as they need a bit a lot of revs to make them move with the 1.8 engine. I know the US auto is a four speed and the performance is often considered "leisurely" compared to the manual - It certainly couldn't be described as sporty, just a fashion accessory.
If there's a scam that hasn't been invented yet, it will surface first in the PI.

Hi all,
I have just taken delivery of a new Mondeo with the 130 bhp TDi engine. This morning after about 1 minute driving the engine cut out and the glowplug warning light was flashing. Has anyone else here had this happen and if so what caused the problem.
I went straight to a local dealer (mine is a company car so not bought locally) who said the fuel pump was showing signs of wear, the car is 2 days old!. It has run ok since that though.
Thanks

Hi Glowplug, no problem, I didn't think you were being abrupt at all, I drove a 90 bhp Peugeot 406 for the last 3 years so the TDci is a breath of fresh air to me and apart from this problem I think the car is great.
Richard
Sorry Doc,
I have no idea how they're controlled on the Nissan Micra.
A quick phone call to the auto electrician at your local dealer might help. Alternatively, furtive browsing through the Haynes manual at the local Halfords ?
