It's not at all clear in my post that the broker4cars prices are listed as 'New List' followed by the amount saved then the actual on the road price ie. £9346. Remember this is for the HDi diesel - the others are cheaper.

Question saab 93 aircon
flatfour

Is there any diy cure to smelly air con on a Saab 93, the main dealer wants £100 to service unit each year. Had a passat before and never had to get the aircon serviced worked great.
Thanks. Read more

SkyMan is right and for this servicing you might to do well to go to a local specialist who has ALL the equipment and knowledge to deal with aircon. Are you running it in accordance with HJ's recommendations in his FAQ section? Run it all the time and put it to full cold twice a month, even in the Winter. I have the use a 9-3 and I think that the a/c system simply doesn't have the capacity/output to cool the car on a hot day. The system has been serviced but just doesn't do the job well!

none

After starting from cold I hear a loud buzzing noise, a bit like a dry ball bearing race. No noise from a hot start and just a bit from a warm start. It only lasts for a minute or so and goes if I rev the engine. It's difficult to pinpoint as it seems to be 'all over' the engine and doesn't last long. I've replaced the water pump, cam belt and alternator. I know that the carb flexible mounting is split, couldn't be that - could it?

No, not terminal but, personally speaking I would (at your next oil change) change to a semi synthetic 10w/40 or 15w/40 (Texaco Havoline is my choice) after flushing. 20w/50 is too heavy and the cause of your original trouble. If the tappets are noisy try a dose of Forte Top End Treatment which will a) clean out the hydraulic lifters and, b) clean the oil pressure relief valve.

Question cleaning alloys
googolplex

Having recently acquired my first alloy-powered car, are there any tips, do's and don'ts when it comes to caring for alloys. I'm used to applying the magic sponge to car wheels and I'm sort of conscious that the brakes are rather more visible with alloys than with normal wheels. Would car wash soap suds be doing alloys the world of "bad" or good?
Advice gratefully received.

Most of these acid etch cleaner's you must not leave on for more than 2 -3 minutes tops, Household detergent is very strong and will remove anondising if left. otherwise all the other users comments apply.

start engine, engage clutch slightly, squeeling/chirruping noise. doesent seem to be accellerating as well in 1st/2nd last few weeks.any suggestions appreciated Read more

Put your handbrake hard on. Start the car, and using a light accelerator, put the car in second gear and slowly lift the clutch. If the engine doesn't stall, it's probably time for a new clutch.

How do people with no permanent address get insurance and what do they put on their V5, tax returns, etc.
(How do they get an updated V5 returned?)

Travelling people that i have dealt with have often had an address that is a relative that does not travel about anymore,a fixed caravan site for instance.Of course if you are just of 'no fixed abode'then you will probably not bother with the legal nicities.

My frien has become besotted with my MG ZT and wants one of his own. He's got a 2000 W reg Mondeo 2.0 zetec in silver, with 40'000 miles and FSH. He's mentioned a sum of £4000. I think this is way to cheap. Any thoughts? Read more

DavidHM

I'd ask for £4750 and accept £4500, because low mileage Mondeos are like hens' teeth.

(Oh and it was the Verona that was under £10k but listed at nearer £14k, making it appear to be the highest depreciating car in the UK...)

I have a 1994 Omega 2.5 V6 auto. When I bought the car the owner told me that the auto box stays in 1st gear for about 300 yards and then changes normally ( he was right). He said he had this checked out at his regular garage several times and was told this was normal but the garage couldn't explain why.The car has had 2 owners and came with a full service history. I've had the car for 3 months now and apart from this one niggle I've had no probs and the car is a pleasure. Has anyone heard experienced / heard of this before and if so can they explain why it happens.

Question Rover aircon
Mike200

As mentioned in one of my previous posts, i have a Rover 214 Sei. This model comes with air con as standard (not climate control). Iv'e never had air con before. When the heat dial is set to hot, should the air con blow hot or not?

Thanks for any thoughts on this. Read more

frostbite

Yes, it will (should), and it's also an excellent way to demist - aircon is arguably as useful in the winter as summer.

Try to run it for at least ten minutes a week to keep the seals lubricated.

I now have a 98 s rover 214, running on 14in steel rims. I would like to know the following:

>> also the road noise and handling of the car changes.
Yes; on dry roads handling will be improved as you\'ve increased
the footprint you make between car/raod.

On dry roads the level of grip will probably be increased, but the handling will probably be changed for the worse. It will be snappier on the (higher) limit.
However on wet/snowy roads a bigger footprint isn\'t always
best, so the handling will suffer. Horses for courses really.

On snowy roads big foot print IS bad. On very wet roads, you will aquaplane at lower speeds with wider tyres.
