Rover216driver

Does anyone know of a web site where I can trace the fault code for my rover 216?

The "Check Engine" light keeps coming on, and the LED flashes 9 times followed by 13 times.

Thank -you

Code 9 means a fault with the cylinder sensor and this is inside the distributor on the 12 valve engine,so it usually means a replacement distributor.

Code 13 means a fault with the MAP sensor and will illuminate the check engine light.Best to check the connection to it is OK before replacing it.Unfortunately both parts are expensive if bought from a main dealer.Hope this helps.

Hi All

I have a VW Golf (1300 MK2 81,000 1991).

When driving over 50 mph for a few minutes there is a high pitch noise occuring similar to a cricket sounding continuously.

Is this due to a wheel bearing? If so is this a cause for concern?

Thanks

Andrew

Does it sound like a tellytubbie in your wheelarch?? I kid you not. Read the following thread for previous suggestions:- www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?v=i&t=98...8

Hi All

I have a VW Golf (1300 MK2 81,000 1991).

My accelerator is not 100% responsive so I am going adjust the tension. Is is just a matter of adjusting the outer cable so that the pedal feels right or should I adjust the outer cable so that the carburettor throttle lever is at a particular setting when the accelerator pedal is fully depressed?

Also what lubricant do I use for the pedal linkages?

Thanks

Check you have full pedal travel ie carpet not bunched up, then with an assistant pessing the pedal to the floor check that the throttle is fully open. If not adjust out the slack until it does then no more. With the throttle closed and the choke off there must be some slack in the cable.

I am trying to fit new bulbs to the heater controls of a 1996 Punto. Ignoring the Haynes suggestion that the fascia had to come off, I managed to remove the heater control panel by pulling off the centre knob to get at the top screw and then undo the 2 at the bottom
The 2 behind the outer knobs were straightforward & easily removed with a pair of pliers.
Logic tells me the one for the bottom slider control (recirculation or fresh air) is hidden behind the slider, but how do I get the slider off to get at it. Read more

Hi all, my Wife's 98 Clio 1.2 has developed a serious noise coming from the front (drivers side) wheel. I would describe it as a rumble/drone and is worsened by turning the steering wheel to the left. The car has done 65K and is otherwise very reliable. Could this be a worn wheel bearing and if so are they expensive to fix?

Thanks

I have a 1989 MkIII Cavalier 2L Automatic CD Hatchback from new which has done 118k miles. I an looking to replace this in the longer term with either another newer Cavalier or a Xantia again automatic. Which is the best of the many Cavalier models? and which is the best of the Xantia's. Or alternatively do you have other suggestions of a safe reliable vehicle by another maker that is over three years old and compares with my excellent Cavalier. Many thanks for your opinions!! If you want another Cavalier with all the bells and whistles, then go for either the Diplomat (leather trim, aircon, ABS, alarm, alloys, pas, air bags, electric windows all round, and electric sunroof, all as standard kit) or the later CDX model - again same spec as the Diplomat apart from the leather being optional. Engine wise, the 2.0l 16v, or the v6 2.5l for performance. The 2.0l 8v engine suffered quite a loss of power when the CAT was introduced.

Question ECU/ Diesel !
surfer

Dear enlightened one,
I have just bought an SRI 1.8i 1986 convertible (£400!!) new mot but been standing for 3 years. It seems clean enough, starts/ runs quietly, dry engine. However, first trip, covered two miles and the ignition suddenly switched off (inc revcounter) all other electrics OK. After doing a short `frustration dance` I tried again - it started first go and drove straight home and just as 2 miles came up again, it started catching again, but got me home. I cleaned the obvious elec contacts/ earths, and went for another drive. Four miles...it started cutting in and out (again inc rev counter flicking on/ off)- I parked up, ten minutes later started fine and drove home. Is it an ECU thingy problem ?? If so where located/ how many of them/ where to get one ?.
LAST question - I `like` diesels, and would wish to convert the car. Which would be the best/ simplest diesel conversion ??

Hi again,
thanks for earlier advice -I will check out all connections again on the cavalier convertible 1986 SRi. I was considering a Diesel conversion -which diesel engine&box is mechanically better/ more suited to fit into the cavalier ? 1.6 or later 1.7 ? even the 1.7 TD? any particular year ?

Hi,
I've recently added an old audi 100 to the 'fleet'.
I thought I would change the plugs but could only get 4, so I decided to change the air filter instead.
When I removed the old one it was covered in oil, any ideas?
I cant see any obvious areas of oil leakinkg under the bonnet.
My second question is - how do you change the gap on these 3 electrode plugs - is it just a bit of a nuisance?

May be filter has been there a long time. The oil come from the breather. Check that you are con getting excessive venting by running the engine when hot with the air filter out so you can see/feel how much venting is going on. The plugs are pre set do not try to adjust these. Regards Peter

Could anyone owning a late model 1.0ie or 1.1ie Uno please confirm for me, if the vehicle has an inertial fuel cut-off switch ?
Thank you, petel@clara.co.uk Read more

Thanks Adam. If indeed any of the Unos were fitted with this switch, I am not sure if it it was a mechanical or electrical unit or, if it was mounted beside the passenger seat as on the Puntos. I understand that the later Pandas had one but as yet, no positive confirmation from an Uno owner.
Anyone please ?
Rgds, Pete.

Whilst having a mooch around under the bonnet last week i noticed that the offside innerwing was oily. Further investigation revealed that it was power steering fluid which appeared to be leaking from a joint of a pipe and and the fluid tank. I cut off the clip and replaced it with a Jubillee clip and duly tightened it. I degreased the inner wing. A week later and there is fresh fluid indicating that the leak is still there. I've given the clip an extra tweak but am not sure wether the pipe might be leaking at the crimped joint, of the rubber pipe which slides onto the tank, and the steel pipe which joins at the crimp.
Anyone any experience of this problem? Read more

Hi, on my P reg 406 1.9 td I had fluid leaking at the crimped joints that go from the steel to rubber sections of the pipe. At first the joints were just wet, but after a while small cracks apeared just under the crimp. The only way to cure it is to replace the offending pipes. I got a set of dry ones from the breakers for £15.00 plus the VAT. If you buy new the longest pipe was about £75.00. Hope this helps.
