A colleague has told me the recent experience of his sister. Briefly, their new Citroen Saxo when delivered had a cosmetic problem with a seat and was changed under warranty. A short while after with her husband driving he braked rather hard and she was surprised to find herself and seat still moving forward. Fortunately she was not hurt. It transpired the new seat had been 'secured' with plastic ties by the garage junior. They complained to the garage who offered a Citroen umbrella. What redress do they have?

Just out of interest, I'd be curious to know where the most over-zealous, jobsworth and generally objectionable traffic wardens/parking enforcers are.
Obviously, that doofus that booked a bus for being in a controlled area reserved for buses in Manchester has to be up there somewhere, but does anybody know of any better...? Read more
Er, what happened with the bold text there? It was supposed to cancel after the word \"can\'t\".
well, for some reason electric computers can\'t work out that when you typed b/ you really meant /b - you\'d think they\'d be able to work it out, wouldn\'t you ! I\'ve correct it for you. M.
A friend of mine has a 214 with an interesting problem.
When the coolant level was checked, there was a thick layer of oily sludge at the bottom of the expansion bottle. The engine doesn\'t appear to be mixing oil and coolant within the combustion chambers ie through a blown head gasket, and it doesnt overheat. The temperature gauge stays in the normal range even when stuck in traffic. There is no signs of \'mayonaise\' under the oil filler cap either.
What he wants to know is; Does this engine use wet-liners being as it is of all alloy construction, and if so does the head have to come off to replace any liner gaskets? Read more
I am a fan of big V8's as long as they come from the other side of the pond, preferably Chevrolet and in the back of a T70 or Ford and in the front of a Cobra or Tiger. My dream car after my Marcos would be a 3000 'M' in my view the prettiest TVR ever, and very exclusive. Not like the jellymoulds they churn out now with every tom ,dick and hooray henry owning one! ;-}
Tongue firmly in cheek

Lucky I finish early on a Friday otherwise I wouldn't have witnessed this, but a large van obviously missed the 'no through road' signs on my street and when he realised he couldn't get through, reversed in to the passageway beside my house to turn around and get out again. I spotted him reversing and decided to watch as he appeared to be getting very close to my car, was at the wrong angle to get in to the passageway and was going fairly fast. Heard a scraping noise so dashed to get a pen to note down his number as I thought he'd hit the car. He'd driven off by the time I got outside, but I did get the registration. Turns out he managed to miss the car, but scraped the corner of the house, chipping a few of the bricks quite badly.
My query is, who on earth do I claim through? Can't be my motor insurer as it's not related to my car, unlikely to be my home insurer as it's damage by a vehicle. Any suggestions? And would any claim be likely to reflect on any future renewal premiums?
TIA! Read more
Make sure that you are clear that he should have known the accident had happened, i.e. noise, impact, behaviour of driver afterwards. My car was badly damaged by a laundry van reversing in a hotel car park. It was dark and only the presence of a witness secured a successful claim. The company initially maintained that, due to the size of tne vehicle, the driver was unaware that he had hit anything.Worth considering.
Just bought one of these and the headlamp wash wipe is completely dead (no wipe or water). It doesn't look like it has moved for a long time. It is supposed to be activated at the same time as you use the windscreen wash. Anybody got any ideas what the problem could be?
Many thanks Read more
many drivers are finding that the cost of replacing E.C.U.s on cars out of guarantee is prohibitive, e.g. A.B.S. module on a Citroen- £2000. Many current cars have several modules fitted. I believe that these items are grossly overpriced as a deliberate policy of the car makers. Is there a case for the car makers to be taken to task by the Office of Fair Trading or similar? Does anybody have any examples of excessive pricing of electronic modules? Read more
It's just this sort of thing that prompted me to start the Horror Expenses thread to expose these rip off charges and warn punters. People tend not to consider the huge cost of these items when buying cars and then have heart failure when something goes 'pop' and they get the bill ! The only way to stop these rip-offs is to publicise them so please put the details in the above mentioned thread.
Hi
I'm looking to buy a Volvo S40 T4 and I'm a little confused.
I've seen some for sale with headlamp wipers / washers and some for sale without.
Were this optional extras on the T4 or are the ones I've seen with headlamp wipers / washers not real T4s?
Hope someone can help!

Well is there an easy way to distinguish the T4 from the ordinary 2.0T?
I don't want to paying extra for a fake :-)
The heater on my 1994 BMW 525 emits an occasional burning smell into the cabin. Any ideas on cause? Read more
No such smell with my own 1992 E34 525i. I have noticed this on one or two other cars though, especially when switching on the heater after the summer, and have assumed that it is dust that has accumulated during the months of non-use.
Sorry, can't think of anything more sensible than that. If you could to identify what type of smell it is, someone may be able to come up with a *proper* answer.
Has the car been repaired yet? If not, take some photo's of the problem.
Then get the car fixed by the garage, make sure you get a receipt detailing the work done (even if it is free).
Then write to the garage service manager, explaining briefly what they did and that you believe they left the car in a dangerous condition. tell him (or her, perhaps?) that you will be writing to Trading Standards. Don't ask for anything. If it's a Citreon dealer then write to Citreon UK also.
Then about 3 days later send a detailed written complaint (with copies of the photos) to Trading Standards. they probably won't be able to do anything about your individual case, but they will now have a complaint about dangerous workmanship and may target that garage next time they do a investigation into such matters in your area.
I think this is about the best redress you can hope for.
