Can anyone recommend a good car polish and technique for applying it. I currently use Autglym Super resin polish using a polishing cloth and several people have said to me that I should use a hard polish on top of the super resin polish.
Also does anyone know if these paintwork treatments, i.e. supergard, are worth bothering with?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

What moron put the intermediate step of car transporter trains and a 50 quid charge between us and France?
Would some tarmac and a toll booth have been such a problem?
Was this lobbying from the ferry companies?

But the road tunnels in Europe have crashes in them. Mont
Blanc.
But that applies to all road transport. We accept the higher risk on the road for a faster journey time.
i have a M reg cavalier 2.0i which seems to have an idle problem. when started it runs @800rpm but after 2 mins jumps to about 1200-2000rpm, and feels like driving with the choke out.

This website will probably interest Italian car fans.

Be careful people! The picture in the first link is a computer generated "guess" at what the new 157 will look like. If you click on the 2nd link, there are pictures of the restyled 156 which is due out later this year and is in effect the same car as the 156 with a different front and rear!
Hi,
Can anyone with a Cavalier Haynes manual give me the gear ratios and final drive ratio from a 1991 Cavalier 1.4 with 5 speed box. I would also like the tyre size for both 1.4 and 1.6 models.
Cheers

Me again, xantia 1.9 TX LX (1995) yada yada.
MPG awful (33-35) so considering replacing injectors. Recons available £35 each, however can get 4 from a accident damage 60k xantia for £30.
Thinking of buying the 4 for £30 and fitting, if no improvement then getting the originals reconditioned.
Is it a simple case of old ones out, new ones in or is it more complicated than that?
I have a bosch injection pump, will injectors vary or are they consistent with the pump through the years. Where do I look for part code to compare?
Advice much apprec as always

Mike,
I understand the full recondition is clean, replace parts as needed, set opening pressure and test.
The injectors I mentioned were from a 25yr old Land Rover diesel and even those just needed cleaning and a slight adjustment to the pressure settings. Hence the low price because no parts were needed.
The guy commented they didn't really need doing but I wanted to eliminate them from a long term and frustrating smoking problem.

I've checked UKRM and would welcome a second opinion here.
Anyone taken a bike across the English Channel?
I plan to use the tunnel to cross for a weekend. What's it going to cost, how does it compare with ferries, is it cheaper to go on a Thursday night than a Friday morning?
Should I simply go by ferry?

You need to shop carefully as the operators have reverted to practices of a decade ago and charging different prices according to duration of stay, Simple pick/mix of outward/return crossing seems to be on way out.
We got a very good price with Eurotunnel, £59 for out and return with no more than one overnight - out on 20th back on 21st. All three ferry co's wanted over £100 but any duration fares were undercut by 5 or 10 day deals.
I have a 1998 Rover 400. The heater fan only works on settings 3 and 4. I've dismembered the rotary switch and it seems to be making contact for all 4 settings. Any ideas? Is the Rover 400 prone to electrical glitches or am I just unlucky (the rear screen heater's also defective - see previous entry if you can help)?
Cheers, John.

Chris, make sure your blower motor turns freely, otherwise it will be drawing too much current and you'll be putting in a new resistor every week.

Fear not NWS. I logged in couple of years ago for sensible reading and opted for no extras. Never been bothered with spam or junk mail from them.

The engine in my 1.9 diesel Xantia (non turbo)is running hot, according to the temp gauge, but I am not getting any heat from the heater. I have recently topped up the header tank, do I need to bleed the system to get rid of any air gaps.
The thermostat seems to be working but only the right hand side of the raditor is getting warm.
Any ideas

Leo,
A cool heater and cold areas on the radiator after topping up ring alarm bells on a Xantia diesel system. You can do the head gasket very quickly like this.
It is crucial the system is properly bled through using a temporary header tank. If you have a Haynes follow the coolant fill/bleed procedure...if not buy one!

Have 2 new cars and have used nothing but "Auto Glym Extra Gloss"
I find the "super resin" polish to be slightly abrasive whereas the "extra gloss" is simply a liquid wax easy to apply and easy to remove and idealy suited to waxing brand new paintwork without leaving all those marks that show up in the wrong light at the wrong angle on dark cars.
Anyway, this subject has been covered a few times in the past and I am just about repeating myself here.
