I have a 97 Vectra diesel and like my Cavalier before it,water leaks into the boot. The seal is snugly fit and I can't see any apparent reason why it does this.

Anybody got any ideas?

It'll certainly be the last Vauxhall I buy if they all do this. Read more

Until last year I had a 95 2.0 SRi Hatch, and found exactly the same symptoms as you. After I had stripped out all the trim just forward of the left light cluster I also found water running down the inside of the body.

I found the cause to be on the top left corner of the boot aperture. There is a round grommet about an inch in diameter through which a set of cables go, and presumably end up at the top of the bootlid. That grommet leaked copiously and ended up being replaced by my local dealer.

May be different problem to yours, as one of the posts re a pinhole under roof trim wasn't an option I looked at.

Question Micra radio
Quinny

My missus has a 97 Micra 1.3 SR.I quite like to drive it as it goes like the proverbial off a shovel, however the radio reception is patchy,to say the least. It has the roof mounted aerial above the drivers door, but even fully erect,(oooeeerrr missus)it doesn't make any difference.

Has anyone else had this problem, and if so,what was the cause and what did you do to rectify it?

Thanks Mike,I'll look into that. She's only had the car about 4 months, but the radio isn't covered under the warranty,so it looks like I'll have to get a new one.But in saying that,I wonder if the connections were cleaned under the aerial it might improve? I'll have a look at the weekend.

Does anyone know anything about Omega's Servotronic speed sensitive power steering?I'am having problems with mine, the steerings going hard at speed but sometimes does't reset at lower speeds. Also the steering is going hard at lower speeds. It just seems to come and go when it likes. Each time the ignition has to be cut to reset it. Any clues ? Read more

For those of you that have not had to venture out, there is a LOT of surface water on the roads, with occasional LARGE puddles and water running across the road.

I saw one car that had aquaplaned and skidded off the A12 early this afternoon.

It doesn't look as if it is going to get any better by the morning so if you are back to work take extra care and maybe look at sticking to main roads rather than short-cutting across country.

You may find that your usual route is impassable. I'm just off out to check!

If flooding is going to become more common as we are told, then it would be worthwhile making up a simple air intake extension from an old hoover snake and keeping it handy. Also maybe quick-release nuts to release the fan belt.

Visited Kwik Fit for my 5000 mile oil change yeterday. Apart from the usual "your rears are a bit low, and I wouldn't use THAT brand again Sir" (BF Goodrich, which have lasted over 20k and still have a few thou miles in them, and have been a good tyre) and "your exhaust is on it'a way out Sir, no we can't do just the middle sections we need to do the lot", one of the mechanics told me my 3.0 Omega MV6 engine is by Isuzu (sp?).

Is that true??

Thankfully the "major oil leak" that his colleague at a different branch identified last time it went in seems to have healed itself... Read more

I am too am getting rid of my freelander with the rubbish customer service. I am waiting for a 2.0 diesel santa fe and have researched the net as well as test driving other 4 by 4's. I was convinced that I would be buying the x-trail but after my test drive in the santa fe- I loved it and the x trail did notlive up to its expectations. i expect everycar has its faults- you have only to look at the freelander-new joints/new back window, dodgey central locking-noise at the back etc etc. having looked on the net world wide not may people seem to ber moaning about the santa fe-i think when they first came in they have been upgraded since

Hi Chaps,

Happy new year to all ......

Funny thing this morning with SWMBO's Megane (1.6, 8valve with 38k,).

She started the car up and it apparently ran very roughly, didn't tell me of course - just revved up and drove off. There is quite a steep hill near us which she struggled to make 20mph up, turned around, came home, blamed me and has driven off to the sales in my Omega.

I've now taken the car for a spin and can feel nothing wrong with it - except a very, very slight misfire thats only noticible with your head under the bonnet. The plugs are fairly new six months or so, but the car has the original HT leads - which I have now sprayed with WD 40. Although its bucketing down, the engine is bone dry and the HT leads seem in good condition despite being almost 5 years old. I have to say that the HT leans don't seem that tight a fit on the top of the plugs - they pop into place but there is some movement.

The car was last run on Boxing day a 200 mile return trip with it performed faultlessly.

Any ideas? Does anyone have any experience of the 1.6 8V Megane that might help. My next step was to start her up from cold tomorrow morning and then to replace the plugs and HT leads.

In anticipation.

Sorry Robert, I was really hopeful you may have found this hose was going to be a simple cure.

Worth passing on the advice I had from Andrew Moorey (Tune-Up) who posts here when I mailed him about this Megane fault before I'd seen the first vehicle.

"Throttle position switch sounds a likely culprit especially as it is at very light throttle openings. Try disconnecting it. Other possibilities could be O2 sensor or tracking around the plug leads or coil packs"

So he mentions leads, coil packs as well plus a couple of other items.

Actually apart from the MAP hoses and valve covers these Megane's have been quite good for engine reliability. Having said that the higer mileage one looks like the head gasket is just starting to go at about 55K.
