I'm doing the shims on the Divvy.
Number 4 shim has a gap smaller than 0.002 thou on the inlet. (My smallest feeler gauge)
I'm assuming this means there's no gap and it's therefore *smaller* than 0. (Always pressing on the valve)
Since the chart doesn't cover values smaller than 0 how can I work out the correct shim?
Have I got to instal the correct shim for 0 and measure again?

Please can anyone help? I have an old Volvo 740 Turbo Diesel (VW LT35 engine). My local garage replaced the head gasket and now there is no oil pressure. There was pressure before the work was started. Could there be something in the work that would disconnect the oil pump drive? We have pressurised the system (through the pressure switch) with a remote electric pump and, with the filter removed, oil passes into the oil filter outlet. However with the relif valve spring removed and the engine turning over, there is no oil passing through the valve. It would save a lot of time (engine removal?) if something's been overlooked. Many thanks.

Steve,
Thank you for your reply - there could be a link here. At the moment we have found that the pressure relief valve will not come out of it's housing when the cap and spring have been removed and I'm assured that this should fall out with the spring. Maybe the oil pressure problem is there but I'm not a great believer is coincidence. So I'll look more into your idea.

Following a road accident near Bishop Auckland, Co. Durham on 1.4.2002 when the driver of a motor car ran over and fatally injured a 6 year old child, then stopped, looked back and drove off, many of the veteran posters on this site made various comments.
Yesterday a 34 year old male was sentenced, as the driver involved in this incident, at Leeds Crown Court
to 2 years imprisonment and banned for 10 years for:
Causing Death by dangerous driving (of the four brakes on the car only one was working and that was impaired)
Failing to stop after an accident.
Failing to report an accident.
No Insurance.
Driving Licence irregularity.
Apart from the emotional bang the hastard how do we stop such people from being on the road and is this a fair punishment?
((Mark RBLS) did try to bring up the original post and tack it on but could not find it - sorry).

Hi everyone,
I seem to be seeking a lot more advice than I'm offering at the moment, hope you'll indulge me a little more...
I've finally decided to get the new car and so the Xantia must go. Thing is, I've never sold a car before and to tell the truth I'm not sure I can be bothered will all the palava (real word?). I've read HJ's guide, but I want to absolutely minimise the hassle of selling.
The nice chap in the garage suggested I tried an auction, but I'm concerned that it'll go for £50 and I'll have to pay £60 + commission to the auctioneer. Can I set a minimum acceptable price? If it doesn't make it, will I still have to pay the fee?
What about a smaller garages offering cash? I realise I'll not exactly get top book that way, but how bad could it be?
I was interested in the advice Becky got about insuring her car so it could be test driven by potential buyers, but it's all £££ and given the bandits who insure me, it'll probably cost more than I get for the car.
Oh, and finally how much could I realistically hope to get? It's a 93/94L Xantia 1.6i LX with FCitroenSH, 120k, full MOT and everything working on it; I'm the cars second owner. Parkers give £1455 for good, £790 trade and £330 fair, I'd guess since it's all working fine I should try something nearer the trade price. Parkers say that condition is more important than mileage on older cars.
[Mark/Martyn, I'm not actually trying to sell it here, I've just put down the detail for advice, hope that's OK, otherwise please remove - Thanks]
Any advice, as ever, much appreciated. Oh and I need to get rid of it this month.
Lee.

Seems like a good offer when compared to the values on What cars website. Is it a T-Bar?
Why not ? I know that this has probably been put forward before but think about it.The constituents of water, hydrogen and oxygen, perfect for combustion.
Invent some super duper electrolysis unit that can split water at a sufficient rate on demand and bingo.
Mind you,the political and business ramifications are something else to the extent that I don't think it would be allowed by governments and would be "buried"

Somehow,I don't think so. Read more

I have just bought one for daughter. I know they aren't the best diesels, but the price seemed OK for its condition & many new parts and year, even allowing for the previous owner only changing the oil annually/10K using semisynthetic instead of 4½K.
To be honest, I think the colour and microdisc player were highest in my daughter's priorities.
Anyway, as usual I immediately changed all the fluids, including engine oil, which seemed to get black very quick. Now I have the manual I realise that although the engine's first fill is 5.3litre you can only drain 4.8litre out, no matter how much I tilt it and how long I leave it to drain.
Anyone any experience/ideas how to get the last pint out? (Suggestions like "you should have bought a 106 are not appreciated!) Read more

Does anyone know of a good non franchise mercedes specialist in the Bristol area?

No but if you care to pop up to Birmingham, I know of an excellent one. Andy Gayle of Mercedesservicing.com.

you could argue the toss for quite a while -
the preston by-pass section of the M6 was opened as a motorway on 5/dec/1958, the M1 declared open on 2/11/1959, but perhaps bits of it were open before that. It was certainly 'completely' open before the M6 was (looks like they never finished the Thelwall Viaduct...)
anyway, to the point. If you want to win a copy of the latest 'Off the motorways' guide and think M6 is the right answer, do the 'off the motorways' competition on the BBC Shropshire web site, 'cos it will tell thats the right answer
If you think M1 is the right answer, try the same quiz on the BBC Birmingam website, 'cos that will tell you M6 is wrong and M1 is right
and if like me youre bored on a friday afternoon and you want some value for your licence money, email both sites telling them they're wrong. It's like poking an ants nest with a big stick !

Everywhere else has "London Road" to provide the locals with an aspirational route.
In my village 'London Road' becomes Buxton Road, reflecting the more important destination. One must get to the opera, mstn't one?
I have recently bought a new Mercedes A140 Classic LWB for £12700 from a Mercedes dealer in Glasgow. I stay in Perth, but neither the Merc dealer in Perth or Dundee were willing to match the price.
Does anyone out there know how much a salesman's commission is on a new car and would the Glasgow salesman still have earned a decent commission on my sale? Read more
I don't know the answer to your question, but I reckon if Mercedes UK finds out where you bought your car I reckon the dealer can expect a visit from the Mercedes 'suits'. They do not like dealers discounting their cars at all.

It's assuming the gap as zero that gives me the problem.
I don't know that it *is* 0. It might effectively be -5 if the valve is being slightly held open.
However I will assume a gap of zero and see what happens.
Thanks for the reply!
