Please can anyone help? I have an old Volvo 740 Turbo Diesel (VW LT35 engine). My local garage replaced the head gasket and now there is no oil pressure. There was pressure before the work was started. Could there be something in the work that would disconnect the oil pump drive? We have pressurised the system (through the pressure switch) with a remote electric pump and, with the filter removed, oil passes into the oil filter outlet. However with the relif valve spring removed and the engine turning over, there is no oil passing through the valve. It would save a lot of time (engine removal?) if something's been overlooked. Many thanks.

My employer runs about twelve LT35's as hire vehicles. All are still under warranty. About half have suffered from oil leaks from the O/S/R of the cylinder block/head area. (Difficult to see on an LT35) The only information that main dealer reception will pass on is Oil pump - seals - nine hour job. Nine hours would be long enough to change a head gasket. Maybe there's a link between oil pressure and head gasket.

Steve,
Thank you for your reply - there could be a link here. At the moment we have found that the pressure relief valve will not come out of it's housing when the cap and spring have been removed and I'm assured that this should fall out with the spring. Maybe the oil pressure problem is there but I'm not a great believer is coincidence. So I'll look more into your idea.
Regards, Alan.
