Anyone else have a big problem with their Vauxhall Omega misting up in rainy weather? I find I often have to use the air con to clear it, putting the demister on usually agravates the problem. It seems that the air from the vents without the air con always smells a bit "humid" to me, would this be the pollen filter that needs replacing? I've cleared the drain hole on the drivers side of the cowling below the wipers - I find it a nuisance and I don't know what I would have to do if I didnt have air con!
Any comments welcome!
Regards
Simon

pollen filters are 80 percent hole , it`s only as they block off that their efficiency falls away. imho they are cheap enough to replace regularly , Halfords sell them .
W.R.T. the plenum drain problem , the culprit seems to be the drain line exit point situated in the nearside wheel arch , just the job for blocking up with road debris. Especially as the line is fitted with what my mate succinctly refers to as a "fanny" valve. A good blast with a hosepipe soon clears it out.
In my early twenties I bought a Lambretta (couldn't afford anything else) and passed my bike test but soon "upgraded" to a car. Now I've retired, I yearn for a bike again but can't face the dangerous prospect of sitting around the metal instead of inside it.
I saw my ultimate bike yesterday. It was a Honda Goldwing with a 1500cc flat six engine, leather seats etc. What really appealled was that it was different to the "normal" Goldwing because it was a trike. All I have to do now is work out how much pension to commute to realise enough capital to buy a Honda Goldwing Trike, any guesses how much? Read more
If you don't mind me saying, amongst all the bikes suggested, one hell of a difference is how tall / large you are.
Between the GS500, ER5 et al. there should be something for your
shape, though...

Hi,
I have a 1999 2.0 Vectra Diesel with 92k on the clock. I've only owned the car for a couple of weeks and it's been absolutely fine... right up until this morning.
The car started first time as usual, but ran very roughly for about 5 seconds, then cut out. It then took 3 or 4 minutes of turning over to get it to run again - once started it ran very smoothly, no change from the previous two weeks. Starting from warm/hot is also fine. Leave the car for a couple of hours and your right back to square one. During the turning over there's initially a small amount of white smoke from the exhaust, and the engine doesn't fire at all for a good 2 minutes.
I'm wondering if there's a fuel starvation problem? or maybe air getting into the system? Any ideas?
Kind regards,
Cyrill

Can you offer any clues to finding this please?
After weeks of agonising I asked three local BMW dealers
to quote for a 318tiSE Compact with metallic paint and
a 6Cd player. The lowest came out at £19401 otr including
fitted carpet mats and a full tank of petrol. This works
out at a shade over £700 discount. The one who only offered
£300 asked for a recount......
Allied to selling an untaxed 1995(M) Escort SI for £1775
privately (one phone call and a sale!) would seem quite
a good deal overall.
Thanks for everyone's suggestions in my previous thread.

I always understood that that all european vin Nos were 17 digits long, all my Japanese cars have an 11 or 12 digit No.
Does anybody have any experiences of buying/owning parallel imported motorbikes? I am looking at purchasing a brand new Aprilia RS125 motorbike and have the choice of loads of independant dealers offering parallel imports for around £3100 or official dealers offering UK bikes for around £3800. Different people are giving conflicting advice on the subject, but the main differences between the imports and UK bikes are firstly the warranty, the UK bike has a 2 year Aprilia warranty whereas the import has only a 1 year warranty backed by the independant dealer. Secondly the bike is likely to have a headlamp that aims the wrong way, but this is only usually aparent when it goes for its first MOT when it is three years old. Finally it is important to check from where the bike is imported as bikes aimed for different countries are restricted to different power outputs. But on the plus side I can save around £700 which is over 20% of the UK cost.
Any opinions or thoughts are welcome. Read more
Hi Simon.
uk.rec.motorcycles is a *newsgroup*.
You can access it via outlook express (news) or post via google by going to:

I probably didn't make myself clear on satururday. Buying a foreign spec imort is madness unless it seriously cheap. Buying a UK spec import is as good as buying a bike from a main dealer - after all it's the same machine.

Now that the Wagon R/Agila have been around for a while, where would you expect to find the first signs of rusting ?
Any info much appreciated. Thank you. Read more

I.ve just attended my fifth fatal road accident in 7 weeks last night. Yet another 1am knock on the door. No lectures forthcoming, I'd just like to ask you all to take it easy and beware of the imbecile coming the other way.

You don't get those nowdays, but you can count the number of locations where bunches of flowers are tied to railings and lamp posts instead.
The wrecks seem to get cleared away quite quickly once the accident investigators have finished their work. However, it always makes me think as I go past one before it's been cleared up. I suppose leaving them there would upset the friends and relatives too much, though.
-Rear screen wash
Wiper works, washer doesn't. Needs new motor?
-Rear heater
Complete pain, I can't see out the back if it rains. Can't be the fuse because all fuses are fine, I checked, and other electrics work off this fuse.
-Sunroof seal.
As warned by a friend with a 309, this will eventually fail and has started to let some rainwater in.
Any advice people? Much appreciated. :) Read more
Rear screen wash
Take the motor out and try a separate supply, or use a test bulb to make sure the supply to the motor is adequate. There could be a broken wire where the harness goes into the rear hatch
Rear heater
As above, but the rear heater is notoriusly prone to poor contacts where the connector touches the heater paint. I repaired mine twice before I gave up
Sunroof
Check the seal where the handle passes through the glass. Remove the handle and refit with a little silicone sealant. You can tell if it leaks here as the fold down handle will get full
Look in the surround in the roof, justin front of the handle. THere are 2 bolts here that sometime need resealing. You can just reach the nuts with a slim open ender to slacken them enough to put some sealant under the heads
Yesterday, A colleague was questioning me whether I drove mostly alone, or with my wife in the car.
When I asked why, it transpires that he has just had his Golf (Y reg) serviced and the offside front tyre was considerably worn in comparison to the other three. The dealer told him...
it was because he drove alone most of the time therefore there is more weight on that tyre.
That's just brilliant, can anyone top that? Read more
My local FOrd dealers don't bother with many excuses anymore, I just get told that they all do that! But the offside tyre shouldn't wear first should it? I was told it's always the front nearside that's gonna quickest 'cos of the roundabouts?
Ugh C3 :P
Can I suggest the Skoda Fabia 100bhp TDI. Diesel car had 0-60 in 9.0 seconds dead. And it can do over 60mpg. Personally I prefer it to the Yaris as it looks a bit less girly (imo) and I like the VAG connection.
