After weeks of agonising I asked three local BMW dealers
to quote for a 318tiSE Compact with metallic paint and
a 6Cd player. The lowest came out at £19401 otr including
fitted carpet mats and a full tank of petrol. This works
out at a shade over £700 discount. The one who only offered
£300 asked for a recount......
Allied to selling an untaxed 1995(M) Escort SI for £1775
privately (one phone call and a sale!) would seem quite
a good deal overall.
Thanks for everyone's suggestions in my previous thread.

£700! Is that all! Should have imported and saved about £3k. Just imported a 320d SE with full M2 Sports pack plus other goodies and saved £5k!

I know it doesn't sound much but I assume you spent
a lot of time and effort doing this privately and
maybe even had to collect it?
The import agents DO seem to offer reasonable discount
on high spec cars but with BMWs you can add the cost of
another Ford Fiesta on in extras with barely thinking
about it!
This is my/our first go with BMW so will be very interested
to see future developments. As a further saving I am
lending myself the money at probably less than 3% .. :>(

£19401 otr??? For a 318 compact? Its a rip-off. Why not a 2 yr old 528 with leather for the same money?
|
'Cos SWMBO doesn't want a 528, even if it was free!!

Meldrew: Why doesn't she want the BMW at any cost? Must be some very compelling reasons to turn down the "best saloon car" for as voted by many motoring test drivers in the last 7 years.

Size, perhaps? My next car will almost certainly be a 5-Series again but there are times when I am tempted towards a 3-Series instead, like when the only parking space left is 2" too small for me to get into.
