... needs replacing.
I can only spend say, £1000 to £1500. I friend of mine has a Peugeot 309 which is quite nice (she's 18 and can just afford the insurance.)
I want something cheap to insure and reliable, but with a bit of power if possible, e.g. a 1.4 309 or 205, possibly a base 306, or a Rover 114 Gta.. I don't know though. The Polo is actually comparitvely expensive at group 6 so hopefully there should be a few options? ANY IDEAS? Read more
I bought a Jaguar X-type through the internet from an agent. Three months and
3000miles later, I have realised that the car is not as per spec. The agent is saying that he is not responsible. What is my comeback against anybody? Read more
Not sure about the contract I will check that tonight
and I will fax the dealer and get his side of the story although he told me where to go when I tried to contact him last time about the delivery and told me he would only deal with the agent
As for retro fit that was the first line of enquiry but it is a no go - cant be done
Ill keep you posted on the developments

A little while ago HJ posted stating that there was an imminent price hike on EU Seat Leon's on the way. Does anyone have any further details (%age increase, effective from date, models affected etc) ? As someone who has a Leon on order in the Netherlands I have a vested interest ;-)
Thanks. Read more
You pay the price which applies at delivery whether you're buying in the UK or abroad. That has always been written into the contract although I seem to remember that 1 or 2 makers (Vauxhall?) introduced a price guarantee if the car is delivered within 'n' months. You are more vulnerable to price rises on imports (apart from currency movements) due to makers' attempts to make importing less attractive.
My wife has decided that her years of devotion to myself and
the children justify a 3 series BMW for her next birthday
present!
It would seem that a 12 to 18 month old vehicle is expensive in
relation to a new one and the new engine is worth having. To avoid
this typical Catch 22 I am considering importing one.
Can anyone comment on the wisdom of this and suggest an agency
that will do it at a reasonable saving?

And there may well be a VAT increase in the next budget too!
I suppose the reason for high "prestige" prices is that they are
paid for by companies with OPM (Other peoples money!).

I've had a search and I don't think this has been asked before ...
My ZX (97P 1.9TD) handbook says I must fit an air deflector under the engine before I tow anything - presumably for extra cooling although this isn't made clear. It only applies to the 1.9TD engine, but when I asked the local Citroen garage quoted me £150 to fit it and said it had been a couple of years since they's done one of them.
I have towed a glider to Spain and back over the Pyrenees with no temperature problems at all, but these trailers are narrower and only slightly taller than the car so are nowhere near as draggy as a caravan, for example.
Does anyone out there have experience of towing with this engine in a ZX with/without a deflector?
Ta very much

Thanks for all that. I'll leave things as they are. There is a temperature guage so I'll keep an eye on it.

I wrote a while ago regarding 'juddering' on my Golf which is only 18 months old. It was initially happening slightly at high speeds and then got worse.
The outcome was that the garage (a main dealer), found petrol in the tank (allegedly) to be the cause. They said that the pressure of fuel going through to the injectors was too low and although I find it difficult to believe, the petrol caused the seal on the tandem fuel/air pump to deteriorate, resulting in air getting into the system. Cost to replace £519 including labour.
I now have the car back and have 2 other problems 1) At Idle it is very rough to the point of stalling 2) when travelling at low speeds e.g 20 -30mph, when slowing down and driving at these constant speeds the car tends to 'kangaroo'.
Not knowing much about these things, is it possible that this could just be a fine tuning problem?
Thanks in advance Read more
I forgot to mention that you need to go to the 'forum' section and you may need to register. A search can take about 5 mins. There are a lot of very knowledgeable people who visit and contribute to www.tdiclub.com so it could well be worth a look.
What a nightmare! IMHO Dunstable itself is the armpit of Britain, but compounded with traffic lights at 50 yard intervals in places and with reversable speed cameras (no road marking but those cameras with what looks like an infra-red light pointing face on to you) at either end of the town you really need your wits about you. Coming south yesterday, I was so worried about the cameras I nearly missed a set of red lights - 50 yards after the green ones! Emergency stop complete with caravan on behind - an impressive sight!
Cameras battleship grey but it looks like some aggrieved local has daubed the supporting pillars with some left-over domestic yellow paint.

That is the bit that the M12 (postponed indefinately or cancelled completely?)was supposed to bypass.
I agree that it is dreadful as the principal route into/out of London from Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk, as well as that from Kent to north London via the M25.
I am considering purchasing a new Toyota Yaris from Onesearch. Through them I can save £2,327 over the U.K.list price.
The model I want is the CDX 5 door hatchback 4 speed automatic.
My Toyota agent here tells me not buy an import. Onesearch assure me that their import would be the exact same model with the same specifications as the car I would buy in this country.
This is very tempting. Do you have any information about this company and what are your comments?
Thank you

Sorry to bring this up again, but with the clocks going forward last weekend, I made an interesting discovery for anyone who uses the RDS time function in their car radios.
Basically, wait for the BBC to send the right clock codes and you'll wait till hell freezes over. Tune to Classic FM and the clock updates within a few seconds - which may (or may not) be as much Classic FM as you can take! Read more
Ha!
You have it lucky!
I battled during the last week just to FIND a bl***y station!
Went on a trip inland, then back to the coast - at times I just sat with the radio on "scan" for a while - sometimes for 20 minutes at a stretch, trying to find a signal!
(which was then guaranteed to be playing either rap music, or some god-bothering gospel station stuff!)
And, dashing out of the house when I left, I forgot to reload the cassettes, taken out a few days before whilst cleaning the glovebox of a year's supply of cr*p!
Apart from that, the trip was quite fun ...
So, pugs 'yes', how about a GTa or decent 114? Or are there other matches?
