read my post in the message please, this joker - thunderskin is in some pretty serious trouble with me for bidding on and winning my auction and then trying to get out of paying. He will be being visited by myself and some others to collect the payment outstanding. If you want more info on him and have a legitimate reason I can provide his address and email address.

Oh what the hell, his email address is: mrw@watson-fam.fsnet.co.uk

by all means email him to express your thoughts on him being a total plum. Read more

Any sprayers out there?

I need to do a little bit to the old Land Rover, some hand paint and some spray can (I think). I know that normal paint doesn't really stick to the bare alloy where it shows through in damaged areas.

You can get spray cans of etch primer at about £12 a tin but it is called Acid Etch Primer.

Is this going to lift the existing paint at the repair edges?

Has anyone out there used this fuel by Shell ?

I have read good reports about it, but i wonder if it is worth the additional expense. Read more

My car engine seems livilier and more responsive but I can definitely say there has been no improvement in petrol consumption. Perhaps it takes several tankfulls to clean the engine and then improvements will be seen.

Right, I've seen the Superchips website; it seems reasonable, and there are two agents not too far away. Reprogramming the computer seems to me to be quite plausibly a good thing, for a Jap import particularly running under UK conditions, but I do not want to spend good money just to blow up Toad!

Please, can anybody give a report or an informed opinion, good or bad?

(I think I am marginally on topic this time.)

I have driven a superchipped Focus tdi, which went superbly, apart from a slight unevenness in one gear, over about 200rpm, and at only one throttle opening (ie it was rarely noticeable, and felt like driving over about 5 rumble strips).
Fuel consumption was about the same as the un-chipped, provided one kept in the 1000-3000rpm range, which was quite practical due to the greatly enhanced low/mid-range torque.
What was MOST impressive was the top gear acceleration from about 50 upwards - whoosh! I was sad to have to give it back!

Help!

My Renault 19TSE Auto with 1.4Energy lump has a mojor lack of motivation! Its down to the oil cooler that sits atop the auto box - it seems to have corroded and is dumping coolant in the transmission (and vice-versa)...

My question is, in this country, and as I never ever tow anything or go flat-out in the thing - does it really need this cooler. I know many cars dont even have one as standard so Im hoping that bypassing it will be a cheap fix to give the old thing some more life.

Any expert opinions would be really appreciated!

Thanks

Seeing as you are going to have to replace the g/box anyway, you may as well replace the cooler as well.

On the car by car breakdown HJ posted the following for my car

23/2/2002: recall in Germany for all models fitted with Conti Eco Contact
and Sport Contact 205/55 R16 and 225/55 R16 tyres due to a pressure problem

I contacted my dealer as my car is shod in these. He was unaware that there was any problem in this country and said that perhaps they used a different compound in the tyre in Germany! This sounds a little strange to me but can anyone shed any light on this? I probably drive too fast for my own good (but not the prevailing conditions) so the last thing I want is a blowout. There is no reason while you should not buy Conti if you like them as the recall was for a specific production run fitted to to these cars

Thanks to all for the contributions from the back room.

Mysteriously, the clock corrected itself last night, over 3 weeks after returning to the UK.

And just 3 days before the next venture to foreign parts - hey ho! :-)

Hi,
Hope it's alright if I ask some questions.

Why do some modern cars have dual mass flywheels, such as a VW Golf.
How long do they last?
How do they affect clutch wear?

Thanks. Read more

Not just Diesels;a lot of petrol cars have them;it improves the car's NVH(noise, vibration, harshness).
