My 4+ year old 2.1TD has covered 25,000 miles, and is usually driven with the air-con "on" and the temperature set at 22 degrees. After about 10 miles of driving, the warm air flow turns cold and stays cold, unless the lever is moved to the "red". My Citroen dealer has looked at it twice and can find nothing wrong, implying I don't know how to use it. Any ideas please? Read more
Going to look at a Golf "Ryder" tomorrow. Wonder what the spec is?
I know it is a 1.6 5dr with sunroof and c/locking. Is it like the "Driver" with the GTi wheels and wheel arch trims etc?
Thanks,

No we didn't Colin.
It was a 1991 at a dealers for £1195 and only a panic to replace SWMBO's broken car made us even look at a dealer at all. He was going to drop it under a grand for a trade sale but it was a dog by our standards.
Doom blue with flaky wheel trims and bodged up parking dents. Seen better in the breakers.
One more dog of a Golf later (boy do they hold their money) and we chanced on a mint Polo Ranger which is now here....and mentioned on the Polo fuel tank thread.
Funny little car, like a proper one shrunk by 30%.

What happens to the cars confiscated from tobbaco smugglers by MH customs; and what if the car does not belong to the driver can they still take it if its hired or a company car. Read more
I work for a Truck / Van hire company. One of our vans was searched and impounded at Dover. (Too much duty free stuff). We were told to collect the van. We were told that if the same hirer was found to be driving one of our vans, and stopped for the same reason, the van would be confiscasted.
Well loved but sick 89 1050cc polo, Has been taking noticeable longer than usual to start recently, and currently dies after about 20 sec of idling, runs ok with a bit of right foot, suspect the in line fuel filter, any other ideas? Spark plugs ok, rotor arm and distributor carp ok, leads ok, coolant and oil look ok. Has had a habit of getting a strong vacuum in the fuel tank making fuel cap difficult to remove. Recently replaced fuel pump, Read more
If a fuel tank is welded it is removed from the car and cleaned (by steam I think)
Yesterday, waiting to collect my Ford F150 at the local dealer following it's 5000 service I was struck by the opulence of the place. A brand new airy glass building, air-conditioned to icy levels (must cost a fortune with all that glass in 32 C temps), a workshop that looks more like an airport departure hall -- you drive straight in on to the ramp and there's not so much as an oily fingerprint in sight while a pretty young thing in an airline style uniform checks your vehicle in.
I was then directed to the lounge area. This includes a bar from which another oriental angel serves sandwichs and drinks (non-alky) FOC, today's papers, an internet area, a small movie theater showing (when I was there) Jackie Chan, and a play area for kids. Stood all around on the marble are gleaming examples of the Ford genre and one could be confused for imagining this was a hotel foyer with cars in it. Pride of place was taken by a Lincoln Navigator and a Jag, both in black with with doors open and reeking of leather. Plants and Mozart add to the visual and aural ambience.
Now, I wonder what all this puts on the bill. Down the road where I used to go with my Mitsubishi it was more like a dentisit's waiting room with chaps in greasy overalls handing you grubby invoices and a box containing any old bits removed from the vehicle during the service. You wanted a drink, there was a water cooler in the corner.
30 minutes, 2 fruit juices and the financial pages later, Miss Universe returned with my keys and the bill.
......does Ford do this elsewhere or only in the Philippines? It's very impressive but somehow I would be more reassured by a few erks wandering around with fags behind their ears and spanners poking out of their overall hip pockets...... Read more
Growler - this all sounds just like Fords of Winsford !!
There is an article in today's Telegraph (page20) stating that China not only consumes one billion tons of coal per year, but a further "between 10 million and 200 million" tons are lost in fires in the mining areas and the deserts. Some fires have been burning out of control for 150 years.
The greenhouse gas output from these fires is estimated to be more than that from all the cars in Germany added together.

I thought their speciality was dog.
Although, come to think of it a certain restaurant in Romford, many years ago, was found to have a freezer full of moggies. (= car type slang = motoring connection!)

Same problem on my Pug.
I haven't investigated yet, but I have a nasty feeling that it is probably failure of the climate control sensor unit, and probably unfixable without taking the dash to pieces for megabucks of labour time.
