Does anyone know what I mean by a Ford Transit based mini-bus/people carrier thing. It has luxury trim, a hatch door at the back and sliding side door.
The engine is a 2.5TD. About 1997 build.
Could be called a Tauneaus??......or something like that.
Any experiences of this vehicle...maintenance or riding in/driving experiences. How about anyone who knows how these engines last?
Customer looking at one as an alternative people carrier.

Martyn,
I'm part of a community power forum with 'some' money to spend on web/communication aids for the loocal commoonity. The back room software/service as a discussion forum looks like it might have some use to this end.
How can l find out more about:
Where and who provides this service?
Prices?
What's entailed in general maintenance and how etc....?
Any info/pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Dan
As Dan J has already said, the software we use is Phorum. It *is* free of charge, and a number of quite small groups use it. But as Dan J implies, it does take a bit of setting up. It also requires that the server which hosts the community forum runs on a particular type of software too.
By far the easiest to use of the free software suites for this purpose is wwwboard. I know that Matt is still working on version 3 (www.wwwboard.com), but version 2 is excellent. Have a look at an example at www.brill.com/wwwboard/.
[PS Thanks, Mark, for the redirection]
Toying with idea of a used Porsche 911 - I have 15K to spend - what can I expect for that sort of money or should I lower my sights?
I need a car suitable for everyday driving so reliability is important.

try 'the independent porsche enthusiasts club, the website is www.tipec.org.uk i sometimes see nice 911's go for about £15K, most with full porsche history.
Can anyone out there solve a family argument?!
I like driving the car with the windows and sunroof open and the heater on cold. SHMBO is the exact opposite, liking the heater to actually heat the car. That's all well and good until we're in the car together.
I was excited to see that the new Citroen C5 may solve our problems in that it can heat on side of the car (SHMBO) and freeze another (mine).
The argument she presents is that it can't do both at the same time.
Has anyone tried this set up, and does it work? It's only for interest as I'm not intending to buy a car at the moment, but I'd be interested to see what everyone thinks

Bloke in my village sold a LWB this weekend. Non runner. Laid up for over 15 years. I think it was an early series 2 or 3 cos the headlights were on the outside. I always thought it was a one though 'cos it's so old.
Shame - part of the landcape.
My 1989 Golf GTI 8V (digifant injection) has always had a slightly lumpy idle, but recently things have got worse. The lumpiness is felt throughout the car. I have changed the plugs, leads, cap, rotor arm, cleaned out the valve on top of the engine, cleaned the idle screw all to no avail. Does anybody have any ideas, does the whole intake system need a clean? Its all quite black inside.
Thanks

Tried this tonight and there was a change in engine note when I sprayed the injectors. I have decided to strip it all down, replace the inlet gaskets/injector seals and clean the whole lot up. Hopefully this should alleviate the problem.
Thanks Chaps

You may remember that I had the oil cooler break on my MkII Golf GTI recently. It didn't occur to me at the time but the two oil changes prior to the failure had been done using a semi-synthetic, the Quantum stuff that VW sell at dealerships. As far as I could tell all previous oil in the car had been mineral but I thought that it would be a good idea to change to semi-synthetic (not fully synth as it's an old car & I didn't want to dislodge any accumulated rubbish, knacker seals etc.). Does anyone think that the change in oil type was a contributory factor or just coincidence ?
And now the coolant question. The hose from the top of the radiator to the expansion tank is looking a bit worn so I was thinking of replacing it at the weekend - would I have to drain the whole cooling system ? If so I might leave it as I haven't really got anywhere to work on the car & the coolant was renewed at the time of the oil cooler repair so it's not like it could do with changing.
Any advice gratefully received. Read more
That's what I was worried about, getting air in. I think I'll leave it.
Here is a thread from Geoff that ended up buried under another subject.

Does anyone know anything about a modification for Xantias to stop water getting in and lodging under back seats? Read more
I've got a Xantia estate - no sunroof, but I still have a problem with water collecting under the rear seats. It doesn't dampen the actual seat, just collects under the rear bench.
Any ideas where the water's coming in from?
If I unlock the car (from the outside), the car automatically locks itself after a 1-2 minute delay whilst I am outside the car.
Is this a fault, or is it what I call a useful security feature?
My fiancee told me this happened, and I wouldn't believe it, until I saw it for myself!
Thanks,

Adriana's 4-Runner about 6 mths ago, outside a bar in Santiago. 2am, keys including house keys in ignition, engine running, in gear (auto), handbrake on, CD blasting out, cellular phone on passenger seat.
Mark outside on public phone, trying to wake wife up knowing that first part of conversation is going to revolve around how I didn't know it did that, and I only got out to get my cigarettes out of my jacket in the back.
It didn't go well.

So, young David, Ive been paying attention to the roads this weekend.
Brazil - loads of real landrovers - as far as I can tell mostly petrol. Very few Freelanders (imagine!) and not many Discos.
Most other 4wd are either Blazer or some Pajero thing - although there are a fair amount of some weird make which looks like was was made in Russia. Although there are a fair amount of Cherokees around. Other than that, not many big 4wd of any nationalities. (import tax for a used car here is 105% of its new value, irrespective of current age/value).
Most cars around are beaten up european or GM (vauxhall) saloons.
Chile - Some real landrovers, loads of Discos and absolute tons of Freelanders. Tons of big US 4wd even including the Lincoln Navigator and some guy who was drinking in Prego on Sunday with a Humvee parked outside.
Couldn't make up my mind about how many were Diesel.
