Hi,
Me again!
What is the best UK motoring web site for route/journey planning. I have been trying a few this evening but was not overly impressed.
The AA - Quite good. Bit fusy about some of the locations I entered. Also difficult to get it to avoid particular locations.
Green Flag - Awful. I seem to recall this site was very good in the past. But for some reason this evening it kept running some American style route planner (MapBlast) which was ridiculous for a UK journey.
The RAC - Poor. As it could not find my starting location, which was an area of London!
Was fed up by now. What are your views?

Hi,
Was'nt it true that the Government/DVLA were originally going to introduce the new style number plate so that it changed every month? I thought so anyway.
If this was the case why did they change their mind?

That's why the regulations state the layout of the number plate
DA51 DEL is illegal
DA 51 DEL is legit

i have tried to sell my sisters fiat 127, but nobody wants it, because its getting rusty, so does anybody have any parts for a fiat 127, 1982 X, 903cc. :-) Read more
thanks pete, as you are the only person who has helped me.
does anybody know where i can buy a reversing sensor, the type that beeps more the closer you get to the car behind, i want something not TOO expensive, not like the ones for £120, thanks for the responses (if i get any). Read more
it depends where you fit the sensors, if you put the sensors in the middle of the bumper, it will only tell you about the things directly behind you, but if you put the sensors near or on the corners of the bumper, then it might be able to tell you about whats near the corners of the car.
I keep getting asked which towns the first two letters on the new number plates refer to. Is there a published list?
On the ealier thread: I thought the new compact style of the new font was so that a euro star sign could be fitted on the end. Read more

Knowing HJs opinion of Renault, I think he might enjoy this little tale.
Just returned from holiday in France (you know, those people who love the British so much). Rented a Laguna - having asked for a Vectra. Nice car but whilst there I managed to achieve a blow out on a front tyre (don't ask). No problem, thought I, there's a full size spare, and the car has only done 3k kms. Aha, but there's a pictogram on the dash which indicates useful things like "there's a door not closed", "a tyre is overinflated", "a tyre is underinflated", etc, etc. After replacing the wheel with the spare, this indicated that I was running on three wheels!
There are small senders on the valve of each tyre - which signal the computer - but not on the spare! The sender is one of those devices which apparently has to be set up by a Renault dealer (remember the old Ford non-standard spanners?), so is not readily transferable. Therefore no chance of buying your new tyre or having your puncture repaired by Quickfit or similar, you have to patronise the main agent. And, guess what, the job costs much more!
Are there any other motors which boast this wonderful technology? Read more
No, Andy, its a special valve insert with a weird looking thread. Incidentally, the one for each wheel is colour coded differently!

Hi All
On my Fabia diesel I am getting a diesel leak from under the vacuum pump
at least I think it is the vacuum pump. Looking at the car engine from the front
the is like a fitting on the side of the engine top side. There is all sorts of pipes going in and round from the front from the pump is a bright pipe under the vacuum pump going to the back of the engine diesel pump pipe ? well that is wet with diesel. Pipe cracked split?
Any ideas?

surely it is under warranty ie the 24 hour mobility gaurantee
I seem to remember an article offering the address of a company offering a material to cover the dash to reduce reflections.
I have an elderly customer with a 206 who can't cope with the reflection of the dash when she drives into the sun!
An address of a supplier would be appreciated
Thankyou Read more
Another observation from my recent trip to Samos was that most taxis had a piece of towelling covering the top of the facia (presumably to reduce reflections, but it would also keep the plastic cooler) - rather similar to what is found on most public bars here.

Think once, think twice, think don't drive your car on the pavement.

My favourite is www.mappy.com as it produces a detailed itinerary complete with the full description of each exit sign. You can configure it to your day and driving style to work out route timings and fuel stops.
On the laptop, I use Autoroute, which is excellent for £50 and accepts an input from my handheld GPS so when I get lost, I can pull over and activate it, within a couple of minutes it identifies the exact street I'm parked in.
