Golly Gosh
This is the most uncomfortable tacky little car I have ever driven I am 6'3" and there is no way I can get even remotely comfortable in one of these - take it away please have it made into baked bean tins or something.......
should be renamed a "discourtesy car" Read more
Can anyone comment on this which was/is supposed to be a thermostat which jams in the open position thereby saving head gasket blowouts. Is it still available and where? Read more
Sorry Andrew, never heard of it, but your question has reminded me that the old bellows type is still in the syllabus for NVQ motor engineering, and I have never ever come across one in a vehicle, only in a college as a training aid to show students. Were they ever used in modern cars. I doubt it as they are influenced by pressure, and all modern systems are pressurised.

I have had a Vauxhall Astra Mk 2 1400 LSi Circa 1991 for about 3 years now, after owning it for about 6 months the engine wqarning light started to come on but was on a rare basis and did not seem to effect the performance in any fashion. If I turned the ignition off it would not appear again for some time so I never really bothered too much about it. About 6 months ago this light has started to come on nearly every journey I do, but again no effect on performance. In the last 2 months the idle speed has started to increase and now sits at about 1700 rpm, so I decided to have a look at it. After jumpering the multiplug the warning light flashed 3 codes 12 = engine check initialisation, 35 = stepper motor fault and 25 low voltage on injector. I have changed the stepper motor and checked the injector voltage (which is ok). Has anyone got any other ideas I could try?
Yours hopefully,
Dave... Read more
I believe that low voltage at the injector is a result of an engine sensor problem and not an injector problem someone else will fill you in with the details!
please please please please let me stay, i promise NEVER to insult, or tell lies, or i will immediately withdraw myself and my name from this website, also i will give only give answers to questions i know. yours with many thanks... chris watson. Read more
Hello again.
Is that you again Martin?
Still having problems with your name and (email) address?
So it can't have been you that was receiving nasty emails.
But I suppose there is nothing stopping you "responding" to them, nor complaining about them.
And throwing the baby out with the BATH water.
Hi
Has anybody out there got a BMW Mini? Apart from the fuel filler problem has anything else gone wrong with it? How long does delivery take?
thanks Read more
No it's Kelkoo who are wasting our time. I saw the link too and followed in knowing that there was no was they had a Mini One for £8500 or for any amount of money.
Just another fly-by-night .com outfit trying to get their counters up.
btw the prices they come up with for just about anything are rubbish.
i have been looking at two cars, the first is a (M) reg, citroen ax 1.0 spree, it had light front end damage, but has been repaired, only thing it needs is the bonnet painting the same colour as the rest of the car, it done 47.000 miles, has FSH, is a 1994 (M), and he wants £575. if you dont believe me, then his phone number is 07930 871770.
the other car is a 1993 (L), renault clio 1.2 'oasis', it has light rear end damage to the back panel and tailgate, and is £495. and his number is 0191 5811821 or 0191 5131884.
which one do you honestly think i should get. Read more
thanks to everyone for helping me :-)
Loved the latest addition to the site. Until recently we had a Vauxhall Omega V6 automatic on our company car fleet. I borrowed it to nip home at lunchtime - on the way back it lost power and the dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree with warning lights and messages. In to the Vauxhall main agent, who diagnosed a faulty automatic transmission, which they would be happy to replace for £1300 plus labour.
I got our fleet manager to ring an independent transmission specialist, and we got the repair price down to £125 all in - a failed temperature sensor within the transmission. Apparently quite a common problem on Omegas - ours was the third one they'd had in that week.
Personally I avoid garages for anything other than MoTs and tyre changes. The idea that modern cars are too complex for DIY is a myth - I run an Audi Coupe 20V, and managed to diagnose and fix an engine management system fault, using a fault code reader that I built for 50 pence from instructions on the Internet. Problem was a faulty knock sensor (£60), but you can bet that if I had taken it to a garage, I would have ended up paying £600 plus for a new ECU. Read more
This would be the same Skurrays of Swindon who returned my Cavalier from service with only 1 litre of oil? 13 years on I still won't buy a Vauxhall again.
I'm about to order a MPV and have narrowed the choice down to the Galaxy Zetec 1.9 TDi (£17,000) and the Espace 2.2 dCi Expression (£19,500).
Can anyone particularly recommend or ward against either of these two choices. Is the Espace worth the extra £2,500?
If you have experience of the Espace, what is your opinion on the digital dash?
Any advice on reliability and dealer costs would also be appreciated.
thanks,

Thank you both for your help.
Need to get a new pair of rear tyres for my Mercedes 190E. Thing is the shoulders have got tread left but the centres are worn (Pirelli P2000). I check the pressures weekly and they are always OK. The tyres were on the vehicle when I bought it and I have covered 25k on them.
Is this kind of wear pattern normal on a rear wheel drive car?
Thanks Read more

Reminds me of several trips to work in a colleagues elderly Humber Sceptre. Incredible angles of lean. We commented that replacement tyres should be chosen on the length of the manufacturers name rather than tread pattern, as this would improve grip on corners!

I say old chaps !!
What would be the legal position if one were to recieve a camera speeding ticket whilst one's vehicle were in the custody of a citizen from another country ?
Would the authorities pursue the foreign driver ?
Could be useful if one's employer has employees from Europe here.
now wait for it ...... "I had loaned my 1972 Mercedes Unimog Sports Extravaganza tow truck ( fitted with a Jet Engine from a Bell Helicopter ) to a portugese fisherman I met in a Pub in Whitley Bay, and Now I've recieved a ticket because he drove it up the Coast Road at 110 mph towing a hay baling machine. "
Serious question BTW.... Read more
u do not need "any driver" insurance
many other drivers are insured to drive "any other car not owned or hired by them" etc, as a 3rd party legal catch all
you could easily have left your keys at the pub for a bunch of your mates with such insurance to borrow as they chose... there would be nothing illegal in you doing this... you have done nothing wrong... they are all legal drivers... but you have no idea who was driving...

Yes it might be ok if you're 5 foot 4 but I have no problem getting into other small cars - corsa, fiesta Polo, Punto, even the new Mini is much more roomy - I cannot understand why they release a vehicle on the market when it is only suitable for people of below average stature........
