Ford Focus making a knocking nose between gear changes

I have noticed a knocking noise between gear changes on my Ford Focus 1.6 diesel. My local dealer has told me this is normal, but I disagree. How do I find out what the problem is?

It will be the sprung dual mass flywheel absorbing torque.
