Doors refuse to lock - what's the fault?

I have just purchased a 1999 Vauxhall Vectra 2.5 V6. It was a cheap car that had a few problems, which have all been fixed apart from one – I can’t lock the doors. It looks like the car was broken into at some point and the door lock is damaged. Do I need a new lock, ignition and key?

Well, given the age of the car, and how much you would want to spend on it,depends on the level of repair. You could just go for a new door lock and manual locking (keeping the old ignition key) but trying to have full central locking may involve a specialist plus spares.
