2003 Nissan X-Trail starting problem

When starting my Nissan X-Trail for the first time in the morning it starts first time, but without touching the throttle it starts to rev to 1500-2500.

If I put the car in gear and move it 10 yards the revs drop back to 900 and the car is OK.

The rest of the day, perhaps twenty starts, its perfect. The car's performance is fine other than this.

It's overfuelling in order to run at all for some reason. Would be normal to run at 1,300rpm for a while, but 1,500 - 2,500 is too much. Try removing the air filter altogether. If that cures it the answer is that you need a new, clean air filter.
