Why are snow socks wearing prematurely on our Skoda Octavia and Mercedes-Benz C200 estate?

I purchased 2 pairs of snow socks, one pair for my Skoda Octavia (front) and the other pair for my wife’s Mercedes-Benz C200 estate (rear). After approximately 30 miles over four days the Skoda socks have developed long central vertical tears and the Mercedes-Benz socks horizontal tears. Is 30 miles the life of this product?

Read the instructions. If you have not been restricting their use to soft snow then yes, their life will be as short as if you had wrapped a pair of your own socks round the wheels.
