CHEAP ESTATE OIL BURNER WHICH IS PEANUTS TO RUN TAX AND INSURE

Not sure what the fuss is about being a tiny oil burner. I knew what I was buying. Never had a problem with the EGR or regeneration system even after covering 150000 miles. I've got a practical vehicle without having to pay a penny road tax. Vehicle serviced every 5K without issue. However this is a no frills and spills car that does exactly what it says on the tin. I agree with some reports of handling but remember it's a small barge and it's a load lugger not a rally car. Stick a fiver of diesel in the tank and it will run all day on it. It knocks spots off all the petrol and 1.4 and 1.6 TDI engine variants for economy. I can get the figures off the scale if I was feeling really 'tight'. At one point I could achieve 102 mpg and have proof. But owners have to take into account of rocketing fuel prices. Cambelt and water pump lasted 140K as manufacture stated. Didn't mind paying a dealer to change properly with genuine parts which was guaranteed for two years parts and labour. Set of front and rear discs and pads lasted 60K before replacement needed. The engine can be opened up if needed without fear of it flying out the front in bits. Always on the key what ever the climate. Weak spots on the car are handling, some body panels not painted or finished off properly especially on the inside of the panels. Thin paint used from factory. Interior trim easily scratched if your not careful. Rubber steering wheel and gear knob wear very quickly and will need refurbishment or replacement soon. Windscreen prone to chips / cracks and bonnet now has a lot of chips. Brake calipers are prone to sticking so need to be kept up to scratch when in for service. Alloy wheels are weak too these need refurbishment as the top coat has come off in places. Wiper arms corroded where they are bolted. Disappointed that there is no temperature gauge in the dash. Also disappointed with the weak inlet plastic manifold design which the Volkswagen Polo and Seat Ibiza suffer with hairline cracking. Needed a heater resistor too as this failed so had no fan settings. To add I needed both front door looms replaced due to breaks but worth it as I shall keep it as a classic as she is now parked up for now. It's a shame a Scout model 4x4 with this engine was not adopted by Skoda. I also agree with some reports of poor dealer experience. They are not interested after the car if 3 years or older just push you to chop it in. If your on a low income I would recommend this car to anyone they are easy to drive and has enough equipment, it's even got 'hill assist' Just look after it and it will last you a few years.
