Subaru brings back the Impreza hatchback

Subaru is to sell the Impreza hatchback in the UK again. Order books for the new model open on May 1, with prices from £17,495. The decision to bring the car back to the UK is a result of a more favourable exchange rate, but numbers will be fairly limited.

All models will get the same 114PS Boxer engine, which isn’t particularly competitive when it comes to emissions or fuel economy – 147g/km and 44.1mpg, respectively, for the manual model. CVT automatic versions have slightly better figures – emissions are 140g/km and economy is 46.3mpg – but prices are steeper, starting at £18,995. All models are all-wheel drive.

Standard equipment includes automatic lights and wipers, front fog lights, power-folding and heated door mirrors, a windscreen de-icing system, dual zone climate control heated front seats, a reversing camera and USB/AUX connectivity. Safety equipment includes a brake assistance system which helps apply maximum brake force in an emergency and prevents unintended acceleration in the automatic model.

Subaru has also announced that it is to bring back the WRX STI, a high-performance model based on the Impreza saloon. It will be powered by a 305PS Boxer engine, however it’s not due on sale until after the standard Impreza. You can read more about the new WRX STI by clicking here.
