Audi A4 Avant - 2007 Audi A4 2.0L TDI Water Leaking From Engine? - cheeseypeas

I have a water leak from my audi 2L tdi 170 estate. 78000miles

The garage I am using has bypassed the egr valve and then the oil cooler but the coolant keeps dissapearing. It was almost due a timing belt so I thought that we would get it done and check the water pump. I doesn't look like the water pump was leaking but we have replaced it anyway.

The coolant does not seem to be leaking from the heater matrix as I am not getting condensation into the car.

The next step would be to take the head off while it is all apart but the expense is starting to add up and I'm a bit concerned.

The rate of water leak was from max to the warning light coming on in 300 miles.

Any ideas? Are these engines prone to head gasket leaks? Anywhere else to check?

The local garage I am using said that Audi main dealers give no info/help to independant garages

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks Rich

There was an issue with pouros/carcking heads on the 2.0TDI engines, causing coolant to leak. However, I thought it had been sorted by 2007. Try doing a google search.

I don't see any relevance to water leaks so unless you have misunderstood what they said, they are pulling your chain and incompetent.

Re. The egr valve and oil cooler. Both have water going through them and can leak.

Done a bit of research online and apparently early (up to 2007) 140tdi engines had a problem where the head was prone to cracking.

There is also some evidence that some go porous.

Oh dear. The phrase 'Can of worms' springs to mind.

Thanks for you interest and responses.
