New Mondeo TDci auto - r_welfare
Anybody had any experience of the above?

My dad has a new Mondeo TDci (115ps) LX auto estate on order, to be delivered in February. This despite the local dealer (the car is coming from a leasing company) saying such a combination didn't exist!

However, the power of the internet (Ford's own UK website) has shown that you can get one (shame on you Mr Dealer!) under the bizarre moniker of "Durashift 5-tronic".

Is this a tiptronic-style device, or some sort of clutchless manual? Currently my dad runs a 99T Vectra 1.8LS auto estate (which he is very pleased with) and is a big fan of self-shifters - from talking to him he's not taken with the idea of "fancy gimmickery - I just like to put it in Drive and off I go".

Still, it's impressive that auto diesels are becoming popular again - 10 years ago only Peugeot and Citroen offered them on non-prestige cars, if I recall correctly.

I thought the TDci was 130ps. Do you mean the TDi?

No, the TDci 115 has very recently replaced the TDdi 115. All are 2.0 engines, unlike the TDci 115 in the Focus, which is a 1.8.

Clear now? (I'm not particularly and I had to read it twice to realise there was no mistake).

I think you will find that it is a 130 TDCI.I had one offered as an ex demonstator with the same gearbox.Apparently it is a $1000+ option but the dealer said they got it for nothing as a demo vehicle.

So let me get this right, the old TDDi is no longer. This new TDci 115 - is that a new engine like the 130? Is it as "good" ie common rail, chain cam etc?

I must confess I missed this new arrival...

Good engine and gearbox.

BUT the new Mondeo has taken at least one retrograde step:-

Thanks for the replies everyone. From what I can make out, the TDci (little "c") is a new engine, 115ps version of the more powerful diesels. Apparently the firm my dad works for has gone over to an "all diesels" policy, and I think this combo of engine and box is very new, hence the confusion all round, including our local Ford dealer!

Hopefully should be a good car. New Mondeo seems like an excellent motor from my experience of it (rentals plus taxi rides!), the old man was never a fan of the old model but it takes all sorts, doesn't it?

I've noted that various correspondents here have commented on threads not being updated to their conclusion. Well, here's one that has.

Dad received the new car (finally) on Friday, used it for one day (quite happily), before disaster struck...relayed over the phone, he tells me he slowed down for some traffic lights which changed back to green before he got there, so he accelerated.

Well, the engine did, but the car coasted to a halt.

The tell-tale was transmission fluid all over the road. One presumably dead automatic transmission, all from a car with just 118 miles on the clock.

Now, the car came from a leasing company, so I'm not sure who is to blame here, but it makes you wonder about either Ford's, or the leasing company's pre-delivery inspections. Assuming of course it is something simple like a drain plug not done up properly.

Still, my dad likes the car, despite the above and pieces of trim falling off in the passenger footwell...

The later Ford autoboxes have a somewhat restricted life span, but 118 miles must shurely be shome short of record.

I knew the old "A4LD" (how sad am I for remembering the designation?) autobox in Granadas and Sierras was famous for going pop every so often, but I thought Ford had sorted it out?

Oh well, if this is the average lifespan, it means he'll be using courtesy cars a lot...

Every other day, if they're automatic too...

Actually Dave, his current courtesy car is a Fabia 1.9D manual, which he really rates! I can see my mum ending up with one, as our village garage is a Skoda dealer with an excellent local reputation...

Micky,

Are you taking same??

I was thinking about getting one of these. Thanks. I just changed my mind.

It's probably a freak incident, but from what I can make out it's a new engine and gearbox design, so it may be better to wait for a few months to get the bugs ironed out. My dad is lucky as it's a leased vehicle - I doubt he'd buy one if it was a private deal.
