01 1.5 diesel, starter motor will not turn - eoutlet
My car was working fine and then it would not start.

Called th AA, checked glow plugs etc

then said starter was faulty

got the starter motor changed but when to start it again after comming from the garage and i have the same problems

when i turn the ignition on all lights come on but there is a slight humming noise

any help would be much appreciated.

Are you sure the humming noise is not the heater/ventilation fan. I suspect the ignition switch is fault and you need to establish that when in the start position there is a 12 volt feed to the starter motor solenoid. Regards Peter

i found the noise was comming from the pre heat unit

so i went a bought a new one and changed it

The starter motor turned and the engine started -- i was well chuffed

The next day starter would not turn and the buzz from the pre-heat unit was back

i am totally confused

check all the earth wires from battery to engine., Take off and clean all connections. Could be a bad earth.

Don't overlook the possibility of a faulty battery or a bad battery terminal connexion. Are either of the terminals fizzing under load or getting hot?
