Volvo V40 - Volvo V40 (2004) starting problem - Chris on the road

'04 V40; has sat in driveway for a few years now. Started regularly but eventually the battery began to run down so I would jump start it every 10 days or so and leave running for half an hour; not ideal, I know (but life got in the way) - and I couldn't bear to part with it for sentimental reasons!

Started firing on 3 cylinders approx 3 months ago.

Now it won't start at all. Starter motor turns over but not firing.

There is plenty of petrol in the tank.

I've fitted a new battery and sparks. No sign of moisture ingress anywhere.

Any ideas? Are ignition coils the likely culprit?

Thanks for your thoughts.

I'd suggest first removing the plugs and see if you've got sparks. If you have, then it could be down to old/dirty petrol. Perhaps buy a cheap OBD code reader and see what that says?

I would think it more likely the fuel pump has seized up . Can you hear any humming activity at the rear when you first turn the ignition on?

Forgot to mention, I ran an OBD2 diagnostics check - all fine except airbag sensor switch (which I'll deal with before I get back on the road - if it ever starts)
