Following it's short lived appearance in the UK as an SUV, it appears that the Jimny is reappearing as an LCV:-

Still like it...and I only need 2 seats.!!

One way round the unrealistic legislation that killed it off. No doubt rear seat conversions will be available. Great wee cars and less damaging over full lifespan than an all electric car if in typical low mileage use. No one buys one of these to cover big miles and they last very well.

Good on them, they're not big enough for what I need but I like them as vehicles and dislike red tape

Presumably as an lcv , they will be vat reclaimable . So every builder will be having one on their drive .

I had it's two seat commercial predecessor in the early nineties - it towed all sorts of things it legally shouldn't have in low range, tough as old boots for local runs.

I used to take it on some of the beaches in north norfolk in winter when nobody was about just for a laugh!

A word about fitting extra seats in the back - your insurance company won't like it, and it will have to be re-registered as a four seater and that might change it's emission classification!

Wonder why Suzuki didn't put a new, more emissions compliant engine in the passenger version rather than withdrawing it.

Huge demand for these isn't there?

There is a big demand yes, but not so much in outright sales figures, just that the demand exceeded availability.

But completely agree here, i mentioned this when a thread first announced the demise of the Jimny. Surely the mild hybrid versions of either the 1.0 Boosterjet or the (n/a) 1.2 Dualjet could be made to fit?.

I've just recalled that in mainland Europe the diesel version termed the DCi/ DDiS is quite popular, it was never imported into the UK AFAIK.

The diesel was the Renault K9K @ 65 PS and later the Renault K9K 266 unit @ 86 PS.

Her's one for sale! www.leboncoin.fr/voitures/1830740258.htm/

Always been surprised by Suzuki’s attitude to these wee cars. They’ve always restricted supply and limited its potential by not offering a diesel in the UK. They could be selling a lot more and at strong prices too. I don’t get it.

One thing I was always curious about was the name. Did Suzuki want to name it Jiminy (as in Cricket) but hit a copyright problem? The list of quirky car names is huge but Japanese and French cars seem to feature frequently.
The Mitsubishi Starion was allegedly a mispronunciation/misspelling of Stallion, and the Nissan Moco (mucus/snot in Spanish) is anyone's guess. Mazda Bongo Friendee. Daihatsu Naked. Citroën Jumpy and Jumper. Renault Twizy.

I believe Starion is a contraction of 'Star of the Orient'.

I think the worst name was the Mitsubishi Pajero. They can't have checked their Spanish dictionary before they chose that.

According to an Australian website i was looking at, there does not seem to be a 'definitive' reason for the name, rather a few (conspiracy?) theories!.

First is simply that it is a mispronunciation of Jimmy, possibly following a trip by Suzuki management to Scotland. But as Jimmy is easier to pronounce than Jimny, probably unlikely.

Second is that it is a misspelling of Gemini.

Third is that it is a mash up of the words Jeep and Mini.

Fourth is that it comes from the Jiminy Cricket character in the Disney film version Pinocchio. Because the character was a small, smart, safe persona (but apparently in the 1883 original story, Pinocchio kills Jiminy Cricket!).

The 1969 Chevrolet K5 Blazer SUV spawned a sibling in 1970 called the GMC Jimmy which was produced up to 1991 - the Suzuki may have chosen Jimny to avoid confusion or perhaps to take advantage of it.

Postman Pat was the WagonR joke - loads of cartoons and photo montages all around the workshops when I was there doing a service course in the nineties!
