Seat repairs - CliffDee

Hi, I posted this in technical and got no response. Surely someone can recommend a seat repairer?

I am a big guy and lately the lower seat cushion in the drivers side is saggy (8 years of sitting) and not giving as much support as it used to. Is this something the dealer could fix or do I have to find a seat specialist. If I need a specialist any recommendations near Birmingham? Thanks

Google is your friend. When you have identified suitable companies pay them a visit and see what they suggest.

Then make a final decision.

Try a scrapyard for a seat from a similiar model. be sure to disconnect all electrics for residual current. Don't want airbag going off if the seat has one.

Totally agree here.

Even if you could find someone to do a repair, the amount of work involved means the cost would likely to greatly exceed that of simply buying a replacement seat from a breaker or scrapyard, and there are plenty of these online. In fact i'd start by searching for a seat on Ebay.

If you google/YouTube the particular model for seat parts you may be lucky and find OEM replacements are available. For example our Corsa seat back partially collapsed and I found that the internal frame back is a stock part and was readily replaced. Instructions are on YouTube.

Even the seat covers are designed to come off and on to allow access. So if the cushion failed like the OP 's I reckon it would be an easy, cheap DIY fix if the seats were constructed like ours are.

Certainly worth a quick check before going down the secondhand seat route even if that is the more likely solution in the end.

Sounds like a suitable case for a cushion. Look out for roadside discarded sofas - plenty around in our county.

If that's the case a scrapyard is the ideal solution - the passenger seat is usually much less worn than the driver's, so the answer is clear, if you can find a car with identical interior trim.

On older cars you can often remove the whole seat (with runners etc) then separate the upholstered section from the undercarriage and swap them over. With newer cars there may be issues with seatbelt and airbag connections.

First, interesting to note that after commenting on the lack of response in the technical section, the OP has not responded to the replies posted here!.

However, after looking at the thread posted on the technical section i see that the car in question is a Mitsubishi ASX. So did an Ebay search and found this,

Only the one listing for an ASX, but you might get more luck with an online breaker. Also, not sure about this, so you'd need to look into it, but the Outlander seats might be the same?.

I suggest you go to the parts department of your local Mitsubishi dealer who should be able to supply a new seat base (foam) or at least give you the part numbers for you to go find it online. Once you’ve got the parts, i’d take it to somewhere like these chaps www.rahimreupholstery.com/#services

I have no connection to the above company, that was just from a cursory google search.

I have no connection to these people....autoretrim.co.uk/contact-us/ but Mike Brewer of Wheeler Dealers used them on the Porsche Boxster.
