Alloy Wheel reconditioning - effect - smokie
Does anyone have any experience of having their alloys reconditioned? I know this has been discussed (even though I can't find it) but have a fairly specific query.

One of mine is just "going" at the edge - it's not unlike the appearance of water under a plastic film, so I'm guessing that the lacquer has "sprung a leak"

The local tyre place say £65 to recon, but it needs to be sent away for 5 days. The wheels are standard Irmschers as fitted to Omega MV6 - spoked wth black insets, and the steel is not particularly light in colour.

If I just get one wheel done, will it make the rest look shabby?

If I don't bother getting it done will it cause horrendous things to happen later?

btw none of the wheels are spoiled with brake dust, thanks to Green Stuff dustless pads

I had my tyres changed by a well known fast fitting company and they wrecked all four of my mv6 alloys by forcing the tyres on cold (denied it of course and said they were chipped by stones, which is interesting cos 2 years later they have no chips) anyway, I had them reconditioned by prestige in Milton Keynes, came back like new, cost me about £60 each.

I think if you get one done and the rest are in good condition you won't notice.

I had mine reconditioned by Prestige in Milton Keynes, came back like new, cost me about £60 each but well worth it.

I am about to get mine done. I checked around and found that prices vary considerably. I went to visit Prestige in Woburn Sands (MK) on the recommendation of my MB dealers, but have ended up £15 per wheel cheaper from a small specialist in Hemel Hempstead, heartily recommended by a neighbour who trades in used Porsches and has used them often. I have also heard of cheaper sources and, from what I've seen, heard and read, I am not convinced that higher prices mean better quality in this business.

My Polo is having 3 of his alloys refurbed after the accident on the insurance. I was going to have the 4th one done provately but it would have been £70 and as it's a back one, to be honest i don't think it will be noticeable. Am I right?

PG, put it this way -- a blind man would be glad to see it. Depending on the state of the unfurbished one, it might stand out like a sore thumb compared to the rest.
